Project Engineer is accountable for: Managing a project’s budgets Safety: Ensuring safety compliance and adhering to general safety requirements. Ensure safety in design. Responsible for own safety within the workplace. Responsible for adherence to regulations, legislative and safety requirements as per law. Participate and promote team safety efforts. Business: Manage his/her engineering work and resources on the project, including: Technical acceptability of the work Schedule of the work Engineering input to keep the capital cost within budget Value engineering throughout project life cycle man-hour efficiency and cost inter-discipline coordination Ensure that the technical integrity and work scope definition is maintained through the concept, design, supply, Procurement, Construction and Commissioning activities, by maintaining close cooperation with those functions and advising the Project&Engineering Managers if corrective action is needed. Issue progress, design and technical overview reports to the Project&Engineering Managers as required by project procedures. Ensure that the project work scope and quality requirements are clearly defined and agreed by the Client / Project Team and that change control procedures are adhered to. Maintain adequate communication with the Client/ Project Team on technical matters. Interface with Engineering Discipline / Functional Managers on resource planning, allocation, demobilisation and appraisal, to achieve project and company resource management objectives. Close out project, contract and engineering work according to procedures, and disseminate and archive useful information gained and lessons learnt. Ensure that all project engineering documentation and drawings are adequately prepared, filed, secured and transmitted. Functional: Establish and maintain a thorough knowledge of the scope of the engineering work and quality requirements for all engineering work required for the project. Ensure that specified technical requirements are identified and met (URS guideline), in general by personal review and by ensuring that their work is adequately reviewed and checked by Discipline Functional Managers or approved by specialists. Obtain all approvals of engineering work required by Project Team and any relevant statutory bodies. Ensure that there is good co-ordination between all technical disciplines and all design consultants or suppliers, with special reference to: overall plant layout to achieve operability, maintainability and required ergonomic standards and safety avoidance of clashes defined and recorded inter-discipline interfaces Define, maintain and work to a project scope of work and general plant design criteria. Create, maintain and work to a realistic and sufficiently detailed schedule for engineering work. Identify adequate and balanced engineering resources with project management support. Control the flow of technical information from/to Project Team and the Discipline Lead Engineers / Consultants and ensure quick and effective communication and records. Control engineering work by attending all review meetings for progress, coordination, problem solving and efficiency reviews. Organise and participate in multi-discipline design reviews in time to minimise any abortive work. Manage and monitor effective change control. Leadership: Provides on-the-job training/support to new team members. Allocates work as a team leader: may check on completion/quality and integration. Supervisory responsibilities, contributing to the motivation/development of team through professional leadership. Thought leadership in a discipline that is key to the business unit. Management responsibility for a team of professionals. B Degree in Engineering or suitable equivalent qualification or experience. Education in project management will be advantageous. Skills&Knowledge: Design Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals. Engineering and Technology Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and fabrication processes. Administrative Knowledge of administrative, document management and drawing office procedures. Building and Construction Knowledge of fabrication and construction materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction of buildings and steel structures and mineral production facilities. Work Experience: 8-10 years working in a similar position in similar industry. Proven track record in design or project engineering or project management.
