Job descriptionIn a nutshellThe Fire Tree Design Company is looking for a motivated and creative mid-weight PHP Developer to join our team based in Riverhorse Valley, Durban.Must have a minimum of 2 years' work experience in an agency or development house environment.The ideal candidate will have:Great attention to detail.Strong desire to learn & contribute.Ability to work with and without supervision, individually, and also as part of a team.Ability to multi-task, organize, and prioritize work.A decent sense of humor – or ability to put up with ours.2 years hands-on experience with both Mac and PC in an office environment.Responsibilities:We are looking for a passionate PHP Developer who enjoys both the thrill of designing and building solutions for our customers as well as the discipline in resolving bugs and assisting with user support.You will be responsible for both back-end and front-end development, including creating WordPress themes and plugins.This position requires a combination of programming skills (namely PHP, HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript) and aesthetics (understanding element arrangements on the screen, the color and font choices, and so on).The candidate should have a strong understanding of industry trends and content management systems.You must be as comfortable working with people as you are working with code, and be able to communicate in a professional manner with people in different groups such as Client Services, Account Managers and Support.Client Facing experience or Project Management experience would be highly advantageous. The ability to manage stakeholders’ expectations, including timeline estimations, feedback and reporting will form part of the job responsibility. Project management working experience and training would be mucho bonus points!Improve SEO using best practices and site performance.Work with the development team to implement new front-end and back-end technology to improve overall website usability.You will also be required to assist with basic user/network support - troubleshooting email connectivity issues, helping clients with email setup, etc.Minimum Requirements:2 years work experience as a PHP/WordPress Developer.Ability to read and write PHP and JavaScript, HTML 5, CSS.Good written and spoken communication skills.Proficient understanding of WordPress administration, and scalability.Proficient understanding of custom plugins and theme creation in WordPress.Solid understanding of WordPress Hooks, Filters, and coding standards.At least 2 years experience with MySQL databases and queries.Strong problem-solving skills - ability to test, debug and fix existing code as needed.Comfortable with working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with shifting priorities.Advantageous:Project Management experience.Knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite. i.e. InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop.Bootstrap, Sass.Elementor experience.Applicants must please send their CV with #PHP-523-WEB as a reference in the subject line to jobs@firetree.co.za.Please send links/portfolio of work completed (references will be checked).Please also send through your salary expectations.
