About the job Flight Operations Manager (FOM) VACANCY: Flight Operations Manager (FOM) REPORTING TO: Accountable Manager(AOC) LOCATION: Durban Starlite Aviation Operations (Pty) Ltd has a requirement for a resilient, strong and organised professional to fill this position in Durban within the Starlite Group. The Flight Operations Manager (FOM) will support the companys Directors and have full responsibility for the day to day running of SAOs AOC Flight Operations Department. The FOM will have overall supervision of helicopter and fixed wing operations, control of the number of personnel required to operate, and the types of aircraft approved to operate, as well as responsibility for ensuring that all operational systems are in place and functioning effectively to ensure compliance with all Aviation Regulations, Industry best practice and Client requirements. KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Ensuring that all the companys Helicopter and Fixed Wing operations are conducted in a safe, efficient, and professional manner in accordance with Company policies and manuals. Amending and implementing Flight Operations policies and procedures to assure Starlite continued compliance with revised and new Aviation Operations regulations and best practices. Ensuring SAO remains abreast of Aviation regulations and best practices within the industry. Ensuring client contractual requirements are met in line with proven demonstrated. strategic and tactical experience and professional flight operations practices. Ensuring company flight standards are established and maintained in line with International best practice. Flight duties as required from time to time for company/group contracts. Ensuring total compliance with the Companys QSMS&HSE Systems. Continuously improve and develop the Scope of Services and Contract capabilities and ensure implementation to meet market requirements and contract Service Level Agreements. Ensuring all company aviation operations documents, including the Operational Manual, remain current and relevant. Responsible for facilities, approvals as required by the company from time to time. Active contributor to the business development planning and budgeting processes. To effectively lead and manage the Operations Team, including Head Office and those in the field. CRITICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to analyse helicopter and fixed wing contract needs. Thorough understanding of Civil Aviation Regulations. Good understanding of International Aviation Regulations. Exposure to Quality and Safety compliance and audits. Excellent interpersonal skills with the confidence to influence all internal stakeholders and external bodies recognising cultural, legal, and regional diversity. QUALIFICATIONS AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS: The following list of qualifications is essential to fill the position: Qualified Pilot with ATP (Helicopter) and Instructor Rating (Austere environment and NVG experience advantageous). General Management Diploma/Degree or extensive aviation management / administration experience. Quality and Safety Certification. +- 3 years flight operations supervisory experience over several locations and aircraft types with comprehensive understanding of key business drivers from both an operational and commercial perspective. Must be able to satisfy and meet the requirements of the South African Department of Transport and Civil Aviation Authority to be a Flight Operations Post-holder. Affiliations with ALPA, CASA and HASA. Military experience (advantageous).
