Introduction

An IT Technician, or IT Support Technician, maintains the computer and network systems of an organisation. Their duties include troubleshooting and diagnosing computer hardware and software issues, setting up computer networks and assisting employees and customers with IT-related problems.

Duties & Responsibilities
• Serving as the first point of contact for IT support within the organisation
• Installing, configuring, and maintaining software and hardware components of computer and network systems
• Diagnosing and troubleshooting software and hardware issues
• Repairing and replacing damaged computer and network components
• Ensuring the security of client and server computers by installing and upgrading antivirus and firewall software
• Supporting people whenever they encounter challenges with computers and network devices
• Maintaining and updating technical documentation regularly
• Testing new hardware and software before full-scale installation
• Installing and configuring hardware and software components to ensure usability.
• Troubleshooting hardware and software issues.
• Ensuring electrical safety standards are met.
• Repairing or replacing damaged hardware.
• Upgrading the entire system to enable compatible software on all computers.
• Installing and upgrading anti-virus software to ensure security at the user level.
• Performing tests and evaluations of new software and hardware.
• Providing support to users and being the first point of contact for error reporting.
• Establishing good relationships with all departments and colleagues.
• Conducting daily backup operations.
• Managing technical documentation.
• Desired Experience & Qualification
• Grade 12
• Comptia A+ or equivalent
• 6 months to 1 year experience
• Basic knowledge of layer 2 and layer 3 protocols and basic troubleshooting techniques.
• All prospective employees must pass a background check.
• Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
• Exceptional interpersonal skills, with a focus on listening and questioning skills.
• Ability to absorb and retain information.
• Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language to non-technical staff and end users.

• Proven work experience in IT support or IT technician roles
• Associate degree or advanced apprenticeship in Computer Science or relevant disciplines
• In-depth knowledge of Windows operating systems
• Practical experience with internet and network security protocols

• Organisational and interpersonal skills
