Press Tab to Move to Skip to Content Link Select how often (in days) to receive an alert: Date Posted: 05/28/2024 Req ID: 37523 Faculty/Division: VP-People Strategy, Equity&Culture Department: People Strategy, Equity&Culture Campus : St. George (Downtown Toronto) Description: Working under general direction, the Projects Specialist, EDI is responsible for identifying issues, advising on strategy and communications options, developing and recommending solutions, implementing project plans, and responding to the objectives and priorities of the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Office, within the Division of People Strategy, Equity and Culture. Working closely with Executive Director, as well as other Equity Directors, the Projects Specialist, EDI is responsible for communications, project management and implementation to ensure the work of the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Office can be carried out efficiently and effectively and advance equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging within the portfolios at the University of Toronto. Such project management and implementation includes: (a) developing and managing project plans with timelines and deliverables for multiple EDI projects (b) working with multiple partners to coordinate and execute EDI projects (c) developing draft communications, such as remarks, presentations, communication materials, and correspondence, (d) engaging in consultation, providing strategic advice and administrative support on policy matters and other issues, such as on engagement on committees and implementation of strategies, initiatives, and programs (e) acting as an expert resource by providing confidential assistance with complex issues (f) undertaking detailed research on a wide variety of issues and topics related to equity, diversity and inclusion, (e) following-up on decisions made by the members of the portfolio and the portfolio's various committees, and (f) ensuring ongoing maintenance of the highest level of pro-activity and service for the portfolio. The Projects Specialist, EDI works collaboratively with divisions across the University to plan and implement systemic change strategies; foster inclusion processes that support faculty, staff and student success; provides expert advice and makes recommendations to divisional leaders on matters of divisional policy and practice concerning EDIB; and develops and leads professional development and educational programming. The Projects Specialist, EDI coordinates communications, assists with and advances projects, and undertakes initiatives and daily activities within the EDI Office that require knowledge of confidential information. The role of the Projects Specialist will continue to evolve and the individual must be willing to respond to the given priorities of the day and be willing to work cooperatively in a challenging and dynamic environment. The incumbent works in a complex environment that requires a high degree of sensitivity, responsiveness, and a need to maintain absolute confidentiality. The incumbent must present professionally and interact knowledgeably and courteously with the many people including senior administrators, faculty, staff, students, and community members. Qualifications Required: I. EDUCATION: University degree required, post graduate degree (Master’s or Ph.D.) an asset, or equivalent combination of education and experience. II. EXPERIENCE: Minimum five (5) years’ experience in a post-secondary setting in progressively senior positions; Extensive experience with the University, knowledge of university policies and procedures, and an understanding of the University’s organizational structure, including its governance. Experience advancing multiple equity projects within a post-secondary environment or similar complex organization; in-depth experience in and a thorough understanding of complex and intersectional issues related to equity, diversity and inclusion as they relate to the student experience and the workplace. Demonstrated commitment to the principles and issues of equity and human rights, and a track record of success with these issues in a complex and diverse environment. Experience designing and delivering educational programs. Experience in curriculum design and delivery, adult learning principles, group facilitation, assessment and evaluation techniques. Experience in mediation and group facilitation. A thorough understanding of the Ontario Human Rights Code and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA). Knowledge about media (including social media), protocol, diplomacy and an excellent understanding of the University’s mission and intersection with the broader community; Experience leading complex and multi-stakeholder projects. III. SKILLS: Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office (must be able to set up templates and macros in Word and Excel, set up Excel spreadsheets and graphics, and prepare sophisticated PowerPoint presentations), and scheduling software; Familiarity with Microsoft SharePoint an asset; Web design skills such as content management software and WordPress preferred; Familiarity with Acrobat and other Adobe software an asset. IV. OTHER: Strong research, writing, communication, presentation and interpersonal skills; ability to work under pressure; familiarity with University governance, higher education sector, and public sector administration; high degree of political acuity and judgment; ability to deal with senior University Officers in a manner which facilitates cooperation and consensus building; ability to work independently with a high degree of initiative, discretion, and tact; superior organizational skills in planning, project management and task coordination; flexibility and problem solver orientation; and strong leadership capabilities.
