Job Description This role is accountable for building effective relationships with key stakeholders within Old Mutual Insure, Old Mutual Limited and external relationships with suppliers, regulatory bodies, and industry associations. It also entails the successful management of the financial, administrative, and operational functions, ensuring the profitability and future development and growth of the business. The incumbent will be accountable for achieving results through leaders of functions as well as peers and colleagues in the broader Old Mutual Limited group and various internal boards.This role requires an outstanding Managing Director with a proven track record in leading and managing high functioning, collaborative teams and achieving exceptional business outcomes. The successful incumbent will have the ability to work collaboratively and will demonstrate a commitment to excellence across strategic, operational, governance and financial delivery. They also thrive on challenge, and maintaining the highest ethics, integrity, and professionalism. The ideal incumbent will have experience working in different markets, including an understanding of South Africa’s business, economic and socio-political landscape. Professionalism, commercial mindset, and being a trust builder are essential for this role. Reporting Line: OML Chief Executive Officer/ Old Mutual Insure Board of Directors ABOUT OLD MUTUAL INSURE Old Mutual Insure offers a comprehensive range of short-term insurance products to the personal, commercial, and corporate markets that help customers manage and mitigate their risks, enabling them to protect their financial wellbeing. Through multi-channel distribution networks and partnerships, the business offers a wide range of policies that protect against property damage, personal accident, agriculture, engineering, liability, marine, motor, accident and health, travel, credit protection and trade credit risks. Role Description and Key Performance Areas Strategy & Planning Participate in the development of corporate strategy, applying functional expertise to test the viability of the strategy and contributing creative ideas and insights to support the strategy formation process. Lead the development and implementation of strategy for Old Mutual Insure anticipating mega trends and complex challenges and opportunities and ensuring integration with wider corporate strategy. Ensure the strategy is successfully implemented and meets long-term business needs. Aligns the development and implementation of functional strategies, in support of the business strategy, profitability and future direction of the business. Establishes organisational objectives, policies, and business outcomes with a strong focus on governance. Directs, reviews, and appraises strategy and operations to achieve short and long-term business goals. Governance & Policy Management Ensure the financial integrity and wellbeing of the business by taking overall responsibility for financial governance. Provides reasonable assurance to Executive Management and the Board that there are effective and efficient policies and procedures in place, which are well understood and followed by all employees, and that the business is complying with all regulatory requirements. Build a strong culture of high ethical standard as a commercial imperative. Board and Stakeholder Relationships Develop and build relationships with Board members, identifying priorities, issues and strategic challenges and preparing them for discussion. Represent the organization in external relations with investors, clients, the public and others on relevant business matters. Lead the development of partnering relationships with senior executives throughout the organization, building high levels of professional credibility and mutual trust, and ensuring that internal clients have access to high-quality advice and guidance to support in delivering business strategy and plans. People and Business Leadership Set and communicate the strategy for achieving the organization's mission, vision, and values within a function, together with the broad actions needed to implement it; inspire a large or diverse workforce to commit to these and to doing extraordinary things to achieve the organization's business goals. Manage and report on business performance; hold direct reports accountable for achievement of business plans and take corrective action where necessary to ensure the achievement of business objectives, balancing the need to deliver short term business objectives with the longer-term delivery of stakeholder value. EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS Post graduate qualification in Business, preferably MBA would be an added advantage. Chartered Accountant CA (SA) or Actuary. EXPERIENCE REQUIRMENTS At least 15 years' experience within Sales/Distribution with at least 5 years’ experience having assumed the role as Divisional MD/MD. General Management (P&L leadership) experience leading a business unit of equivalent complexity as OM Insure (multi-product line business leadership experience). Experience setting the vision and strategy, managing a cross-functional leadership team of C-Suite reports, working with stakeholders, peers, and their teams to deliver against objectives despite obstacles. Breadth and depth of market knowledge within Financial Services with experience within Insurance (P&C), Retail or Investment Banking specifically within South Africa. Broader consumer industry experience within the Retail or FMCG sectors would be advantageous. Preference for strong sector, product, and operational understanding with a sound working knowledge across Short-Term Insurance and Risk Management. Preference to have led a domain that successfully executed an IT Transformation project. Managerial and Leadership Experience At least 7 years in a people management / executive leadership role, having built and led teams of highly ambitious professionals. A decisive and commercial oriented business leader who has a healthy risk appetite, can deal with “abstraction”, brings a passion for simplicity and is highly execution focussed (with a sense of urgency). An individual who has a global awareness and embraces innovation (digital/technology).
