Performing both the function of a senior business analyst and a traditional team leader, this position will work alongside systems analysts, solution architects and enterprise architects to ensure solutions business requirements, process mapping and maturing of the business analysis competency. Key to the success of this position is remaining cognizant of the enterprise goals and standards and challenging business requirements as appropriate. From a leadership perspective; This will entail work allocation, appointment, managing workload across business analysts for both permanent and contracted capacity. The incumbent will also partake and provide input into IT management decisions and strategic direction as well as driving the delivery of such. Included in the role would be input, advice, implementation of controls and actively participating in the necessary governance and audit bodies, forums, and activities to maintain and evidence the required controls within both the SIG and broader Sanlam environment. From a business analysis perspective; This will entail looking at projects and solutions from not only a nontechnical perspective but also taking into consideration of the strategic intent, technical and timeline constraints, including the different perspectives of build and design, contracts and commercials, risk and security and operational readiness. The business analyst's responsibilities include gathering both the functional and non-functional requirements and specifications, assessing the current software systems in place to identify areas in need of improvement, and overseeing business analysis teams. You should also be able to regularly update the company on any developments in business analysis projects. The business analyst should be able to integrate any updated specifications and requirements into the existing requirements, concurrently providing feedback to business on any potential impacts. Key Responsibilities and Competencies Leadership Proven track record and ability to establish, resource, lead and motivate a team of business analysts Excellent ability to maintain the teams focus on delivery in uncertainty Provide leadership, management, and business analysis vision to the entire business analysis competency Provide strategic direction regarding the general IT trends and developments Set standards and governs business analysts to ensure that they conform to the relevant guidelines Establish and apply governance controls in the environment Exposure to or understanding of Project Management Principles Creates and evolves policies, standards and guidelines that direct the selection, development, implementation and subsequent use of information. Defines templates, analysis approaches, tools and techniques for effective business analysis use Inducts new recruits in the use of business analysis artefacts, repositories and processes Track team productivity and product delivery by applying lean estimation techniques Must be able to allocate the appropriate resources and capacity as the business demand dictates Able to allocate, manage and track the budget and recovery from a financial perspective Must be able to independently engage with external vendors to source capacity as and when required Setup and manage the competency framework for entry, junior, intermediate and senior level business analysts Periodic performance reviews of direct reports, including the goal setting and tracking thereof Communication Excellent communication skills Excellent presentation skills and ability to convey complex ideas in an understandable and simplistic manner to both technical and non-technical audiences Must be able to communicate effectively at all levels, from strategic executive and senior management to implementation level details Excellent ability to effectively communicate with external third-party vendors, providing guidance to their efforts Key Responsibilities and Competencies cont. Sound understanding of business architecture principles, business models and these affect underlying IT systems and implementations Gather and coordinate Business and technical requirements, projects and tasks Assist business to mature business requirements by challenging their representation thereof Able to engage with business to unlock detailed requirements, given trivial or superficial requirement statements - i.e. the art of analysis and asking the right questions Relate business requirements to strategic intents of the business Able to review a business process and either optimize or re-engineer for greater efficiency and/or effectiveness Understand the role of non-functional requirements and which are apply in specific scenarios Develop and elicit non-functional requirements as part of the analysis process, being able to relate these requirements back to business Incorporate and integrate legislative requirements into the business and be cognizant where these could be compromised Able to handle conflict and difficult conversations Thoroughly understands Agile and SAFe and the role a BA plays this framework Business and process analysis as well as impact assessment Translate business requirements into proposed solutions Translate business requirement into the non-technical information requirements Ensure appropriate documentation are created and maintained, at a sufficiently detailed level (L4 to L5) Facilitation of meetings, workshops, etc. to gather information Supporting the business with regards to business and process improvement Transfer of knowledge to users, trainers and peers Ability to mentor and lead less senior peers Ability to develop skills within the team, regardless of current level of competency Minimum Requirements, Experience and Behaviour Must Have Have formal training (not necessarily certification) in business analysis Previous experience in leading a team of business analysts of varying experience 7+ years relevant experience in either business analysis Successful experience in delivery of enterprise grade applications using modern development methods and practices Highly experienced in business analysis and documenting technical/system processes Must have performed multiple technical, non-managerial roles/disciplines within the IT landscape Advantageous 10+ years overall IT experience, ideally in various roles within the SDLC Any secondary qualifications with emphasis on technical related courses such as business and/or systems analysis and design OO A&D methodology and SO methodology Experienced and being able to lead leaders and technical experts Tertiary level qualification in Computer Science degree, IT Diploma TOGAF or similar certification Exposure to the asset management industry Experienced in a senior leadership role in an IT environment Build a successful career with us We're all about building strong, lasting relationships with our employees.
