Job Title: Senior Legal Counsel: Energy / Transport / Logistics Location: Cape Town, Johannesburg, Durban - South Africa About Us: Our client is a global leader in the storage and transportation of bulk liquids, specialising in chemicals, clean petroleum, gases, vegetable oils, biofuels, oleochemicals, aquaculture, and Liquid Natural Gas LNG. Position Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Legal Counsel to join our legal team. Reporting to the General Counsel, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing expert legal advice and support on a wide range of matters, including corporate commercial transactions, regulatory compliance, and risk management. This role presents an exciting opportunity to join a global leader in bulk liquid storage and transportation, working at the forefront of legal challenges and contributing to the continued success and growth of the organisation. We are looking for South African Lawyers who are able to travel from time to time and who can work fully remotely within South Africa for the time being. Key Responsibilities: Act as a trusted legal advisor to senior management and various business units, providing guidance on legal matters related to corporate commercial transactions, regulatory compliance, risk management, and other areas as required. Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of corporate commercial contracts, agreements, and legal documents, ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and company policies. Provide legal support and advice on corporate governance matters, including board and committee meetings, corporate policies, procedures, and best practices. Monitor changes in laws, regulations, and industry trends, assess potential impact on the company, and recommend appropriate actions to ensure compliance and mitigate risks. Collaborate with internal stakeholders including legal, finance, compliance, risk management, and human resources to support cross-functional initiatives and projects. Liaise with external legal counsel, regulators, and other third-party advisors as necessary to support the company's legal needs and objectives. Represent the company in legal proceedings, negotiations, and other interactions with external parties as required. Qualifications: Admitted Attorney with a minimum of 5+ years of post-qualification experience, preferably gained in a reputable law firm and/or in-house legal department of a multinational corporation . Strong legal background with expertise in corporate commercial transactions , regulatory compliance, and corporate governance. Exposure to the energy and oil and gas industries will be highly beneficial. Transport and logistics experience on a global scale will be highly beneficial including maritime and shipping law . Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify issues, evaluate risks, and develop practical solutions. High level of integrity, professionalism, and ethical conduct, with a commitment to upholding the highest standards of legal compliance and ethical behaviour. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, with the flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
