ENVIRONMENT: AN innovative Eye Care Specialist is in search of a Financial Accountant tasked with overseeing the preparation of financial accounts and Audits, developing accounting policies and procedures, maintaining asset registers, financial records, and stock control. The role involves managing controls and documentation for income and expenditure, as well as aiding in the preparation of financial reports and budgets to facilitate financial decision-making. Minimum requirements include being a Chartered Accountant (South Africa) with 2-3 years of experience post-professional qualification. DUTIES: Management of General Ledger Accounts - Ensure all accounts are reviewed and reconciled on a timely basis. Put in place appropriate internal controls to ensure accurate accounts. Ensure accounting procedures comply with Group Accounting Policies and South African Accounting Standards. Review and maintain accounting procedures and processes. Month End Financial Reporting - Ensure the reporting of group monthly financial results to Group and the Executive Team is timely, accurate, and relevant. Improve the automation of financial reporting. Review these reports for both accuracy and compliance with Group policies. Monthly Financial Reporting process, including - Assist with budgets and rolling forecasts. Performance analysis on various expense lines. Trend Reporting. Meaningful commentary on financial performance. Statutory Accounts & Tax - Preparation of statutory financial reports in line with current regulatory requirements. Preparation of underlying supporting schedules for tax returns (VAT, PAYG, PAYE, Income Tax). Compliance - Liaise with both the Internal and External Auditors to ensure all relevant group Audit issues are addressed and internal controls monitored. Liaison between finance function and Internal Audit. Responsible for ensuring appropriate testing of internal controls on behalf of Management. Controls - Ensure the costs of the department remain within budget for existing operations, with any unbudgeted costs pre-approved by senior management. Maintain the integrity of the Fixed Asset Register. Company Secretarial - Manage the relationship with external secretarial consultants to ensure statutory filings are up to date for all legal entities. Maintenance of Company authority structure. Maintenance of master agreement files and sensitive Company documents. Support Company Directors to ensure compliance with fiduciary obligations. Banking - Maintain external banking relationships and work with Corporate Treasury & SGH. Simplification & Projects - Assist Financial Manager to support business units to drive simplification, process improvement and standardisation across the group. Generate unsolicited process improvements and simplifications suggestions with his/her direct Manager. Assist in rolling out of best practices to the company. Support rolling out new policies, training and documentation. Overall review of any other technical and accounting area. REQUIREMENTS: Qualifications - Minimum: CA(SA). Experience/Skills - 2-3 Years post professional qualification. Sound knowledge of Financial and Management Accounting principles. Detailed understanding of IFRS. Advanced Microsoft Office skills - Excel and PowerPoint. Comfortable with fast moving environments and challenging stakeholders. ATTRIBUTES: Attention to detail and is organised.
