QUALITY CONTROL INSPECTOR – FRUIT INDUSTRY – STELLENBOSCH

MAIN PURPOSE OFTHEJOB As a Quality Control Inspector you will play a vital role in ensuring the quality standards of products meet and exceed customer expectations. You will be responsible for conducting daily fruit quality inspections; providing training and support to growers, pack houses and depots; assisting with research and development trials; and managing various critical QC administration tasks. This position requires attention to detail, effective communication skills, and a commitment to continuous learning and improvement. The Quality Control Inspector will be expected to travel locally&nationally, providing quality support to our various product handling site KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS AND INDICATORS 1: QC Inspections and QC training • Conduct fruit quality inspections at affiliated pack houses, depots or related product handling sites: Inspection site locations: Western Cape, Northern South Africa (JHB, Tzaneen, Northwest&Lowveld) and Zimbabwe. Record and submit reports for fruit rejections, both internally and to third-party entities like PPECB. Assist customer technologist with fruit allocation and approvals, either directly through fruit sampling feedback or indirectly based on quality insights. • QC inspection assistance Assist Local QC inspectors during peak weeks and times of capacity strains, capturing and uploading inspections. • Quality Control (QC) Training Deliver pre-season QC training to growers and packhouses and provide in-season re-training and support. Support QC manager in reviewing and compiling QC training resources annually. • Packhouse/ Grower support: Weekly visits to packhouse and picking stations. Trouble shoot issues and concerns with the pack house/grower. Inform pack houses of any local and export depot related quality issues and rejections. Produce comprehensive visit reports following pack house and grower visits, assisting in quality-related decision-making – internally and to the pack house/grower. 2: Research and development trial assistance Assist with fruit analysis for research and development trials, including data capture and sample collection. Collection and delivery of fruit samples as required by the technical team during the production season. Assist with operational requirements of trial setups, including arranging and setting up trial equipment. 3: QC administration assistance Manage incoming and outgoing QC data, including saving/filing customer QC reportsand updating relevant QC trackers. Saving/filing of customer QC reports weekly. Distribution of customer QC reports to growers and pack houses. Uploading QC scores onto export platform. Updating relevant QC tackers. Support quality and claims investigations by gathering supporting information such as weather data, customer feedback, and pack house inspections. Analysis of post-harvest projects and data, particularly for post-season analyse 4: Learning (these will change 6 monthly to annually) Participate in learning initiatives, including completing the induction pack and gaining a basic understanding of post harvest functions and information systems: QC critical control check points (CCP’s) and data feedback required for decision making. Cold chain process flow and soft fruit quality management protocols. Be competent in using the following information systems and application to carry out your job: Teams, PowerBI, Microsoft Forms, Dipar QC App and Dynamic Reporting systems.
