BACKGROUND Peace Parks is a non-profit conservation organization that specializes in conservation at scale through the development of Transfrontier Conservation Areas and the long-term management of key protected areas in partnership with government conservation agencies and communities within these landscapes. We currently focus on the development of five priority transboundary landscapes measuring over 65 million hectares throughout southern Africa and the co-management of ten national parks and protected areas covering over 5.2 million hectares. JOB PURPOSE To ensure that PPF complies with external, regulatory, and legal requirements, as well as internal policy and procedural requirements. This includes the identification of Environmental, Social and Governance risks and advising PPF on how to avoid or address these risks. A key aspect of this role is to uphold the ethical integrity of the organisation and to ensure that PPFs business activities are conducted using ethical business practices. The Risk and Compliance Managers will therefore introduce standards, methodology and best practises relevant to the sector as well as participate in Strategic project management for the organization. Tasks will include monitoring, performance auditing and reporting on active projects and portfolios and reporting progress to senior management for strategic decisions. The degree of control and influence that the Risk and Compliance Manager will have on projects can be defined as: Supportive, with a consultative role Controlling, by requiring compliance Enabling – create an environment/framework for service delivery excellence and continual improvement. KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1.Risk Management Identify and review legal, regulatory, financial, operational, strategic, social, environmental, governance risks to the organisation. Develop and maintain country specific Legal Registers. Review and update corporate risk register and develop and maintain park/department specific risk registers. Develop risk mitigation strategies through the development of policies, procedures, best practices, and standards. Formulate policies and procedures through the development of a Standards of Business Conduct manual for the organisation. Promote Ethical Business Practices through the use of policies and procedures. 2.Risk Awareness and Training Rollout and train staff on risk mitigating activities. Coordinate institutional risk management learning and drive innovation around best practice. Provide tactical support to a culture of continual improvement, learning and sharing of PPF risk management and environmental and social safeguarding best practices and techniques within PPF. 3.Risk Verification and Compliance Oversee and grow the compliance programme with the organisation. Verify compliance through the implementation of a compliance programme. Co-ordinate the METT audit process across all parks. Facilitate the Serious Incident management process and conduct incident reviews. Establish Park specific Grievance Redress Mechanism and conduct monthly reviews. Conduct monthly External Whistleblowing mechanism reviews. Corporate policy management and oversight 4.Risk and Compliance Reporting Create risk and compliance awareness by reporting on Environmental, Social and Governance risk through: Audit and Risk Committee reports. Quarterly EXCO and Board reports Monthly CEO reports Management Committee Meetings to verify compliance through the implementation of a compliance programme. 5.Environmental and Social Safeguarding To lead the integration and support implementation of ESSG Provide oversight of the Environmental and Social Management System (World Bank, IUCN and IFC best practice) REQUIREMENTS Relevant Business Degree 10 years’ experience in a similar role (At least 4 years in Management) Knowledge of the Conservation Industry Professional English language skills Financial and Budget management Skills in negotiating, analytic skills, excellent interpersonal communications Excellent reporting skills Interested candidates are invited to submit a cover letter detailing their interest in and suitability for the position and a Curriculum Vitae, with full address, telephone number, email address and contact details of at least three contactable references.
