Civil Site Engineer - SubstationNorthern Cape – De Aar Civil Site Engineer - SubstationPURPOSETo oversee the civil engineering aspects of substation projects, ensuring that the infrastructure is designed, constructed, and maintained to support the electrical equipment and meet safety and regulatory requirements.RESPONSIBILITIES•Conduct site assessments to evaluate the suitability of the location for the substation, considering factors like soil conditions, topography, drainage, and accessibility.•Develop detailed designs and specifications for the substation infrastructure, including layout, foundations, equipment placement, and access roads, while adhering to industry standards and local regulations.•Design and supervise the construction of foundations or supports for electrical equipment, such as transformers, switchgear, and control buildings, ensuring stability and loadbearing capacity.•Ensure the structural integrity of substation buildings, fencing, and equipment supports, meeting design specifications and local building codes.•Enforce safety protocols and standards to protect workers during construction and ensure a safe working environment within the substation.•Implement quality control measures to ensure that the civil infrastructure is constructed to meet design specifications and industry standards.•Manage the procurement and use of construction materials, tools, and equipment needed for civil engineering work within the substation.•Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and permitting requirements, addressing issues related to land use and potential ecological impacts.•Maintain detailed daily reports of site activities, including progress, issues, and changes in the construction process.•Implement and monitor measures for erosion control, stormwater management, and proper drainage to minimize environmental impacts.•Assist with the permitting process, working with local authorities to obtain necessary approvals for site construction.•Maintain accurate records of project documentation, including drawings, technical reports, and warranties specific to the civil site engineering aspects of the substation.INTERNAL / EXTERNAL COMMUNICATIONS•Internally with Project, Construction, HSSE, Quality Team Etc.•Externally with Client, Regulatory Authorities, Subcontractor and Suppliers etc.QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE•Preferably Professional Degree in Civil Engineering•5 years of Experience and 3 years in similar positionSPECIAL REQUIREMENTS / FEATURES•Proficiency in design and drafting software•Familiarity with local, state, and federal regulations
