Open Window offers the following qualifications: Bachelor of Creative Technologies Bachelor of Film Arts Bachelor of Arts in Visual Communication Design Bachelor of Arts Honours in Visual Communication Postgraduate Diploma in Creative Practice Overview / Vision for the position&Collections&Research Management Department OW is looking to appoint a candidate in the role: ‘Collections&Research Manager’ based in our Stellenbosch Campus. The Collections&Research Manager will play a pivotal role in overseeing the management, development and accessibility of Open Window’s collection, particularly those located at the Stellenbosch campus. Reporting directly to the Head of Collections and Research Management, this managerial position is essential in enhancing our digital library and managing the physical library at the Stellenbosch Campus. The candidate will also contribute to refining our digital repository of internal documents&policies and will assist in enhancing all research&library related initiatives that contribute to the institution’s research agenda, beyond Stellenbosch only. The candidate will need to be technology driven, be knowledgeable of creative arts practice and research, be interested in knowledge management, be comfortable and have an active research interest. The successful candidate will be instrumental in driving OW’s research agenda and strategic planning for both staff and student research projects. JOB SUMMARY Library Collection Management (STB) Providing a coherent structure for both the physical and digital library resources. Assist with the acquisition, cataloguing, conservation and storage of the library’s collection at the Stellenbosch Campus. Refine collection management policies and procedures. Manage the library’s systems and ensure accurate documentation and digitisation of new&existing resources on both internal and external library systems. Monitor the physical condition of the library’s resources and coordinate conservation efforts. Enhance the visibility of OW’s collections and supporting educational and outreach activities. Collaborate with the academic staff to identify gaps in the collection and develop a niche, African-centric library collection. Research Coordination and Programme Development Coordinate the conceptualisation&implementation of research projects&educational events across campuses, in collaboration with the Head of Collections&Research Management. Assist in the development of interpretive materials and publications related to OW’s Research Portal and peer-reviewed Journal. Assist Stellenbosch-based students with research enquiries and facilitate access to OW’s library platforms. Leading library tours for both prospective and registered students. Represent Open Window at professional conferences, workshops and seminars. Develop research partnerships with other academic institutions. Develop an NRF rating database for our faculty staff. Learning, Teaching, Assessment&Supervision The candidate would be invited to contribute, where relevant, to teaching, learning and assessment (if applicable) and would be invited to supervise postgraduate researchers and practitioners at The Open Window (Honours / PGDiploma). General Responsibilities and Administrative activities The successful candidate will work alongside an enthusiastic and passionate group of colleagues, and will work with the Stellenbosch team from campus daily as per operational hours, and digitally with the broader institution. The candidate will therefore be expected to: prepare reports and documentation related to collection and research activities work collaboratively with a dynamic and passionate team, both digitally and on campus maintain professional activity in library and scholarly pursuits contribute to the broader work and culture of the institution Minimum Requirements for applicants The candidate should have: a minimum of an MA / MIS (NQF Level 9) qualification, preferablyin a related field to OW research specialisations, or in Information Science or Library Sciences (candidates will be considered dependent on experience and interest in collections and research management) special interests in the creative arts and related discourses the candidate should have interests / broad knowledge of the fields of Visual Communication Design, Film Arts, Animation Arts and Creative Technologies (or related fields) Added advantages Experience working in an academic library, library management skills&knowledge of library systems Team working and management skills Excellent presentation, verbal and written communication skills Soft skills for interpersonal development of both colleagues and students Excellent interpersonal skills PhD level qualification will be an added advantage Salary scale: R 320 000 – R400 000 p.a (negotiable, dependent on experience and educational level) Open Window offers contributions toward a basic Retirement Annuity. No additional benefits are on offer. The annual remuneration package is negotiable, and will be commensurate with the incumbent’s overall experience and qualification level, as communicated through the application in relation to Open Window’s policies and procedures.
