CORE PURPOSE OF JOBTo lecture at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, conduct and publish research within the discipline of development studies, supervise honours and masters students, coordinate academic programmes as well as deal with administrative work. Ability to supervise at the honours level. The ability to supervise at master’s level will be a distinct advantage.KEY PERFORMANCE AREASCoordination of academic programmes within the Department.Teaching on both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes of the Department of Development Studies.Should be able to teach a wide range of modules in the field of development studies.Contribute to Departmental research output, especially in DHET-accredited journals.Efficient academic administration as required by the Head of Department.Capacity to work well with the other members of the Development Studies Department.Capacity to contribute to the Department’s expanding programme construction.Supervision of postgraduate students.CORE COMPETENCIESA strong background in Development Studies will be an added advantage.Ability to teach in the broader fields of Development Studies and Marine Studies.An understanding of sustainable development in development and maritime studies.Ability to coordinate academic programmes.In-depth understanding of the theories and their application in the discipline.Ability to facilitate learning at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.Ability to supervise research at the postgraduate level.Has contributed or has the potential to contribute to the creation of knowledge by virtue of published research.Ability to develop and teach Short Learning Programmes (SLPs) in the field.Good intrapersonal and interpersonal skills.REQUIREMENTSA minimum of a relevant Honours degree or equivalent.A masters degree will be an added advantageA relevant Doctoral degree will be a distinct advantage.A substantive background in Development Studies and Maritime Studies.Knowledge of Sustainable development in development and maritime studies.At least 1 year of teaching/lecturing experience at the tertiary level.  Proven experience in the supervision of postgraduate students will be a strong recommendation.A developing track record in research and publication records will be a strong advantage.Nelson Mandela University reserves the right not to make an appointment.
