Purpose of the role: Reporting into the Safety and Sustainability Director, the Occupational Health and Safety Manager will be responsible for the development, implementation, maintenance and facilitation of the organisation’s OHS management systems and processes, ensuring a safe working environment that drives a culture of safety and ensures the achievement of our commitment to safety. Qualifications and Experience:A recognised degree or equivalent in Occupational or Environmental Health and Safety Management or a N. Dip. Construction / Engineering Degree with supplementary safety / risk management training.SAMTRAC or NEBOSCH Qualification is preferable.8 – 10 years’ post qualification experience in Health and Safety Management, preferably within manufacturing, industrial or commercial services environment.Minimum of 5 years management experience.3+ years ISO / Management Systems auditing experience.Experience in the implementation of occupational health and safety management systems.Advanced knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation and industry standards.Key areas of responsibility:Lead the development, implementation and maintenance of the OHS management system and assist the business in achieving our commitment to safety, with specific focus on the reduction of our Total Recordable Incident Frequency Rate.Play an active role in the creation of a people centred safety culture that prioritises personal, physical, and psychological safety and promotes accountability and employee advocacy through effective leadership and people engagement strategies.Ensure that all reasonable and appropriate measures are taken by the business and its clients to protect the safety and health of staff, client, customers, contractors and visitors.Collaborate with operations in the development of OHS strategies to ensure full legal and regulatory compliance and the achievement of OHS KPI’s and targets.Build a team of accountable Organisational Safety business partners and drive elevated levels of engagement and alignment with operations. Role model the Empact Group values, coach, support and proactively manage performance of the team. Create a culture that recognises the individual contribution to the collective strength of the team and create an environment that celebrates curiosity, encourages personal growth and professional development opportunities.Work closely with procurement to ensure procurement policies and procedures are aligned to the safety objectives of the organisation, with specific reference to contractor and sub-contractor management.Develop competency and training frameworks for all operational levels, designed to build competence and empower onsite employees to perform their job safely.Collaborate with senior operations management to align all divisions with our OHS policies and procedures and facilitate internal and external training and engagement sessions.Support and provide guidance to operations and senior management on investigations into serious incidents, lost time injuries, high potential near misses etc. Where required, lead high severity incident investigations, providing clear recommendations to eliminate and mitigate the risk of reoccurrence.Coordinate all strategic and operational aspects of incident management, recording and reporting. Track and measure safety performance, providing ongoing feedback to the divisional MD’s and their senior management and based on the data, initiate continuous improvement opportunities across the organisation.Develop, update and report on OHS trends, providing accurate analysis that informs decision making and addresses non-compliance.Lead the development and implementation of safety improvement programs across the business, ensuring replication of best practice or best in class safety initiatives and standards.Anticipate and keep abreast of all regulatory trends, ensuring business readiness and implementation of changes. Engage with local regulatory bodies and stakeholders, to ensure close alignment and collaboration.Develop and implement a safety assurance programme, adopting legal compliance and risk-based auditing methodologies to monitor and measure compliance to the safety management system, identify areas of non- compliance and work with the business in the implementation of corrective and preventative actions and controls.Work with operations and senior management to identify and incorporate corrective actions and safety improvement opportunities into the day-to-day operations of the business.Knowledge, skills, and competencies:Demonstrated experience managing a team and the ability to set and prioritise short, mid, and long-term objectives.Systems thinking and strong project management skills and change management experience.Gather, review, and interpret information to identify trends, draw conclusions and generate appropriate response and feedback.Exceptional problem-solving and decision-making skills - must have the ability to thrive in a high-energy, fast-paced working environment.Internal and external audit experience.Excellent interpersonal communication and influencing skills with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.Ability to work cross-functionally, cross-divisionally, and cross-culturally.Customer centric.Adaptability and an eagerness to embrace a learner mindset.Show commercial and financial acumen and an understanding of business with a high level of computer literacy.The ability to establish effective networks, both internally and externally.#J-18808-Ljbffr
