Job Description: The incumbent will be responsible to provide strategic guidance, specialist advice and associated tools, processes and methodologies to implement integrated environmental management across the Venetia Mine in line with De Beers Group policies and statutory requirements. You are required to: Developing and implementing the environmental strategy appropriate to Venetia Mine through technical and managerial leadership. Reviewing and providing specialist advice and services in the application of the Mine’s Environmental Management System (EMS) and Environmental Management Programmes and ensuring continual improvement. Continuously analyzing business processes, impact of legislation, business requirements and stakeholder views to evaluate risks and plan for the management of risk areas. Evaluating the effectiveness, suitability and adequacy of environmental management at Venetia Mine. Analysing and interpreting information in order to guide the mine’s environmental strategy and reporting as per stakeholder requirements. Developing, implementing and reviewing environmental related policies, procedures and plans for the Company in line with its strategic objectives. Remaining informed of global trends and environmental standards of good practice and interpreting their relevance for Venetia Mine and its operations. Drafting, reviewing and approval of scopes, budgets and schedules for departmental and consultant assignments, including the scoping, commissioning and managing of Environmental Impact Assessments which cover the foreseeable scale of Venetia Mine’s operations. Providing assurance to internal and external stakeholders regarding the mine’s Environmental Management performance. Supervising the environmental team by interpreting, organizing, executing and coordinating assignments. Managing the key performance areas of environmental practitioners in the company by setting and monitoring performance standards and correcting deviations to achieve the Company’s objectives. Planning and coordinating the section's workload by setting and adjusting individual objectives to achieve set targets. Recommending and incorporating cost saving initiatives into budgets and controls expenditure within approved parameters. Preparing annual environmental budgets for approval and controls expenditure. Ensuring that environmental / social accounting practices are utilized to drive eco-efficiency and to inform the reduction of future liabilities. Building relationships across the De Beers pipeline by sharing business information, knowledge and EMS requirements. Monitoring adherence by internal stakeholders and consultants to agreed scopes of work according to service level agreements. Liaising with internal and external stakeholders with regards to all matters of environmental management, including EMS requirements, concerns, permissions, exemptions&legal liability. Qualifications: Recognized Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in an Environmental / Natural Sciences discipline. Five (5) years post-graduate experience in the field of environmental management. Three (3) years operational experience in the mining industry at middle management level, running an Environmental Management System (EMS).
