Senior Project Leader: Regional Peacebuilding Senior Project Leader: Regional Peacebuilding. Based in Cape Town, South Africa The Senior Project Leader for Regional Peacebuilding will be tasked with innovating, designing and implementing peacebuilding initiatives in line with the IJR’s Strategy for 2022-2025. The dynamic individual will be an accomplished researcher, practitioner and analyst, with a track-record of governmental, inter-governmental and civil society engagement. Following on IJRs successful trajectory of supporting peacebuilding efforts in complex situations with challenging dynamics, the Senior Project Leader is required to lead a variety of projects, aimed at positioning IJR as a leading organisation working on regional peace building in Africa, including preventing violent extremism. Job Description: Conceptualise and produce research, organise Workshops and engage in Policy Implementation Support on Regional Peacebuilding; Develop innovative project proposals to guide the implementation of IJR’s strategy as well as develop future work in the area of peacebuilding; In collaboration with the Head of the Peacebuilding Interventions Programme, develop a project work-plan, budget to guide the implementation of peace and security initiatives; Interpret and analyse trends and events relating to peace and security in Africa, and provide relevant high-quality feedback and input to IJR, key stakeholders and policy makers, including actors in the African Union (AU), regional institutions and governments; Produce quarterly and annual reports for the work done for Peacebuilding Programme; Develop the work and relevant relationships with stakeholders working on preventing violent extremism across Africa Identify opportunities for cross-programme collaboration within IJR; Qualifications and Experience required: Master’s Degree in Political Studies, African Studies, International Relations, Peace Studies, Transitional Justice, Sociology or a closely related and relevant discipline; 10 years relevant working experience, including a background in middle management; Analysis, skills and awareness of current debates and policies relating to regional peace and security, transitional justice, peacebuilding and reconciliation in Africa and internationally; An understanding and ability of how to initiate data collection, analysis and compile relevant policy briefs and opinion editorials; In depth knowledge of issues relating to peace and security in Africa, including existing policy frameworks of the African Union (AU) and regional economic communities; An ability to engage in policy and academic debates; A talent to communicate, which includes excellent writing and editorial skills, interaction with the media, and public speaking; Some experience in the administration of budgets, fundraising, and communication with donors; Being proactive, innovative, open-minded and a self-starter who is able to work independently with minimal supervision; Ability to engage in difficult conversations with confidence, specifically with government, inter-governmental officials and civil society partners; Willingness and ability to travel across Africa; Fluency in English and the ability to converse in French will be an added advantage, as well as knowledge of other African languages; A Work Permit for South Africa, which will be valid at the beginning of employment.
