Description Our client in the Chemical Sector, based in East Rand, is currently looking to employ an experienced Senior Research&Development Chemist. Job Overview: Administrate and coordinate all activities in the research and development laboratory, ensuring all products are manufactured in a timely and cost-effective manner. An exciting career opportunity awaits you! Requirements: Degree in Chemistry / Science / Engineering preferred. Minimum 5 years’ experience in chemicals manufacturing environment, pigment dispersions, paint technology, or coatings applications. Direct colorant and/or paint formulation experience is desirable. Academic background in coatings chemistry, polymer chemistry, surfactant technology, or rheology is desirable. Experience using color databases such as Data Color or Lago. Ability to manage complex batch production with a vast range of equipment and resources. Responsibilities, but not limited to: 1. Research&Development: Formulate new colorant products and reformulate existing products for improvements. Perform application testing to demonstrate properties of colorants for specific customer needs. Interact with customers regarding technical matters. Evaluate new raw materials for potential use in our products. Generate ideas for future developments and uses for colorants beyond ordinary applications. Interact with raw material suppliers. 2. Process Improvement: Review the manufacturing process, to optimize the process and to minimize process times for every stage and eliminate waste. Evaluate raw materials to seek best performing raw material within its class and reduce complexity with the raw materials class. Lead projects which encompass product modification to improve performance and process ability. Review batch card instructions and undertake changes to provide clarity to facilitate ease of manufacture. Participate in batch card routing development and seek methods to optimize manufacturing process and reduce dwell times. Enact Quality Control procedures to resolve production problems or minimize costs. Perform experiments to ascertain the benefits of modifications before releasing to production.
