The RTE is responsible for equipping team members with the right knowledge, tools and training to use agile to its full potential. The role involves understanding where teams are in their journey and offering the right approach to support their growth. To enable continuous improvement the RTE asks the right questions, provides good mental models, challenges people in their thinking and guides them towards consistent quality in their work. The RTE also performs the role of Senior scrum master running key initiatives The RTE has Senior Scrum master functions, who focuses on making things happen, responsible for ensuring their teams have everything they need to succeed. They are great at managing stakeholders and are responsible for coordinating across multiple Agile Teams and Supporting and driving ART Delivery and flow of value and proactively removing any impediments. Program Execution: The primary responsibility of the RTE is to ensure the successful execution of the Agile Release Train (ART), the primary delivery construct in SAFe. This involves facilitating the key events and processes that comprise the ART, including Program Increment (PI) Planning, Inspect&Adapt workshops, and the Scrum of Scrums. Risk and Dependency Management: The RTE needs to manage risks and dependencies within the ART. This means identifying potential issues, tracking them, and devising strategies to mitigate them. The RTE is also responsible for coordinating with other RTEs on cross-train dependencies and risks. Stakeholder Communication: The RTE plays a critical role in communicating with stakeholders both within and outside the ART. They need to provide updates on progress, risks, and obstacles, and help manage expectations about delivery timelines and capabilities. This may involve presenting to senior leadership or other key stakeholders. Continuous Improvement: The RTE leads the ART in continual learning and improvement by facilitating regular retrospectives and fostering an environment of transparency, openness, and innovation. They must inspect and adapt the processes to maximize efficiency and effectiveness. This includes incorporating new practices and tools into the ART and spreading successful innovations to other trains.
