The South African Medical Research Council (SAMRC) strives to improve the nation’s health and quality of life by funding and conducting relevant and leading health research. UNIT DIRECTOR (Entry, Competent or Seasoned/ Doctor, Associate Professor or Professor) GENDER AND HEALTH RESEARCH UNIT The SAMRC seeks to appoint a UNIT DIRECTOR who is a senior researcher with international standing, proven leadership skills and the ability to enhance and maintain a centre of excellence that facilitates the generation and dissemination of methodological research and primary research to enhance evidence-informed healthcare and policy. Minimum Qualifications and experience: • A PhD in Public Health, or Medical or Allied Sciences • at least 10 years’ experience in research, of which three (3) years must be in a senior capacity within the Epidemiology, or Public Health environment • NRF rating or evidence of international recognition in a focal area within Gender and Health research • a track record of research, grants, publications – national and international [up to 50 lifetime publications (ISI journal articles, editorials or book chapters)] • written successful research grant applications for international and national donors to support a research programme • presented research findings to international and national conference audiences, including as an invited faculty or keynote speaker. This is a 5-year contract post, based at the SAMRC Cape Town, Pretoria, Johannesburg or Durban Offices.
