Afrirent Holdings, a group of companies operating in the Mobility and Hospitality Sectors, is seeking the services of a Legal Professional to establish a legal department within our company. The Group Legal Manager will need to act as a strategic partner to the Afrirent Group of Companies and supporting the Group CEO by providing an integrated legal, risk and compliance function and service. Summary of duties includes: the provision of proactive, sound, effective and professional legal advice, legal support, legal opinions and legal documentation / contract drafting to ensure that legally informed and compliant decisions are taken and implemented and managing litigation and disputes for and on behalf of Afrirent. Developing and implementing the overall Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) function, responding appropriately to company / group-wide risks that may impact on the achievement of Afrirent’s strategic objectives and ensuring that the correct risk governance processes and tools are implemented. Leading the provision of compliance services and activities to ensure that Afrirent complies with all relevant statutory and regulatory requirements Develops appropriate legal standards / rules of engagement on legal issues Provides advice on existing contracts i.e. projects already undertaken and where action needs to be taken Manages litigation and disputes for and on behalf of Afrirent Acts as the Legal Counsel in civil and criminal matters; and manages all criminal matters by conducting preliminary investigations and guiding the decision-making on further action and / or next steps Assesses probabilities for losses and recoveries to guide provisions made by finance Compiles and prepares Legal and Compliance reports for Exco and relevant Board Committees Manages the various legal aspects by providing legal advice of project agreements during the life-cycle of the projects Advises on negotiations of project terms, ensures legal compliance, risk mitigations relating to contractual terms and compliance management across the business Assist HR Department with Chairing Hearings and/or representing the Company at legal forums Develops the annual Departmental budget Implements an effective compliance program by developing and managing the compliance framework Supports the Executive team in order to optimise and align their respective portfolios to future needs and business challenges from a legal, risk and compliance perspective Takes shared responsibility and accountability for good governance practices Participates in the recruitment and selection of subordinate staff Ensures compliance Requirements: Law Degree Admission as Attorney / Advocate Postgraduate Diploma (NQF level 7) in Compliance Management / Risk Management will be advantageous 8 years’ experience as a Lawyer / Legal Counsel / Legal Advisor in the public or private sector with vast experience in Corporate Law 5 years’ experience in Risk and Compliance Experience in corporate environments are essential PLEASE NOTE: SALARY: Negotiable with the succesful candidate dependant on years of experience and qualifications LOCATION : Our Head Office is currently in Midrand, but is due to relocate to Limeroc Business Park, Centurion (N14) in around August 2024.
