The Enrolled Nurse will be responsible for direct and/or indirectnursing care of a patient or group of patients and will function underthe direct and/ or indirect supervision of the Registered Nurse. The Enrolled Nurse will be responsible for assessment and careas well as the needs of patients and will be responsible for assistingthe scrub nurse during operations and keeping the operating roomsterile. Experience in anaesthetics for this role would be anadvantage. Further Role Breakdown : Practice patient care according to his/her Scope ofPractice and assume total responsibility for these activities. Be active in preparing the theatre, and replenishment of stock,consignment and instrument replenishment of the operating roomallocated to for a procedure list. Contributes to theholistic care of patients. Maintain the principals ofaseptic technique when opening packs and consumables. Tohelp control patient and hospital costs through the correct, safe andeconomical use of supplies and equipment. Handle equipment,instruments, stock and medication safely and competently. Effective risk prevention and management when assisting with thepositioning of the patient or transfer of the patient to and from theoperating table Effective communication with patientsregarding their care. To assist the anaesthetist duringinduction of anaesthesia Executes all procedures accordingto hospital standards. Ensure that all patients have anappropriate nursing care plan. Communicate with Health CarePractitioners regarding any change in health status. Compliance with documentation policy. Record and signspecimen registers Ongoing audit of health records to ensurecompliance Ensures all stock is well controlled and managed,charged and credited appropriately. Maintains a therapeutic,clean and safe environment that is free from medico-legal hazards. Maintains a safe working environment in accordance with theMachinery and Occupational Safety Act. To takeresponsibility for own nursing actions and professional conduct. Assumes responsibility for own personal and professionaldevelopment. Projects a positive professional image. Promotes and maintains good working and interpersonalrelationships with management, colleagues and doctors. Previous experience assisting in anaesthetics would beadvantageous. Requirements Grade 12 or equivalent NQF level 4 qualification. Current registration withSouth African Nursing Council (SANC). Minimum of 5 years asan enrolled nurse assistant. Post-Op nursing experience isessential Floor nurse and Anaesthetic experience essential. Strong knowledge of surgical procedures and patient safety. Knowledge of Infection Control&Prevention.
