Our client is in the natural sciences field in a regulatory position. They are seeking a dedicated and experienced Legal Practitioner to join their Legal Department. As the Legal Practitioner, you will play a crucial role in representing the organization in all legal, compliance, governance, and professional conduct-related matters. Primary Purpose: Effectively manage legal risks for our client, including contractual, litigation, reputation, and intellectual property risks. Provide sound advice on legal, and legislative compliance, governance, interpretation of legal decisions, and management of litigation. Responsibilities: General Legal Services: Draft and manage contracts. Manage litigation in the magistrates, labor, and high courts. Analyze regulatory, commercial, and contractual documentation for legal implications. Monitor and comment on legislation. Represent our client in forums where legal representation is required. Monitor the legal requirements of our client's contractual obligations. Stakeholder Relationship Management: Provide legal advice to management, Council, and subcommittees. Advise our client's management on legal matters relating to their rights, obligations, and privileges. Disciplinary and Dispute Resolution: Serve as the lead in professional conduct, including tribunal issues. Vet complaints against practising professionals. Research facts of disciplinary cases and complaints. Analyze information, prepare written reports, and implement decisions taken by the relevant committees. Arrange and manage disciplinary hearings. Good Corporate Governance&Compliance: Examine and analyze regulatory, litigation, and contractual risks. Ensure compliance with best practices regarding legal risk management. Liaise with executive management and stakeholders on changes in legal compliance. Provide input in the development of internal control policies and procedures. Organizational Effectiveness: Develop standardized legal processes and standards across the organization and its subsidiaries. Establish effective control and coordination mechanisms for all operations and activities. Foster a high-performance corporate culture that promotes ethical practices. Facilitate resource availability through effective procurement processes. Comply with organizational and divisional reporting requirements. Education and Experience: LLB Degree or equivalent qualification in Law, admitted as Attorney or Advocate. 2-3 years post-admission experience in Legal Services at an advisory level. Experience in legal, dispute resolution, litigation proceedings, governance, and compliance services. Excellent writing and communication skills. Special Requirements: Willingness to work overtime when required. Ability to travel when necessary.
