JG Afrika is enhancing its Hydrology and Water Resources Management section. We are looking for a Senior Engineering Hydrologist/Water Resource Engineer with 10+ years of relevant experience.This is a permanent position, and the successful applicant will be based in our Hilton office in the KZN Midlands (Pietermaritzburg).Responsibilities• Developing national/regional water balance plans• Water resources yield and planning analysis.• Water Services Development Plans• Water Conservation and Demand Management plans• Master planning and network analysis• Catchment hydrology assessments, including rainfall-runoff modeling.• Design flood hydrology.• Hydraulic modeling• Conceptual design and sizing of stormwater infrastructure• Flood risk assessment and flood line determination.• Water and salt balances• Determining the social and economic aspects of water resources• Mentoring junior staff• Business development, compilation of proposal documents, and costing• Scientific report writing• Project management, client liaison, and invoicingQualifications• BSc Eng (Civil) or BSc Hydrology (Hons); a master’s degree would be advantageous.• A proven track record in water resource planning, modeling, and reporting• Professional registration (Pr.Sci.Nat or Pr.Eng)Experience • Extensive knowledge and experience using typical modeling systems used in South Africa (ACRU, Pitman, PC SWMM, WRYM, WRPM, HEC-RAS, GoldSim, WEAP, SWAT, Mike modeling, and DSS tools), along with proficiency in GIS• Solid experience in hydrological modeling, water resources planning, flood determination, mining sector, stormwater management planning, and water balances• Strong interpersonal and networking skills, business development, and project management expertise• Proven experience in project management. Job Profile / SkillsTechnical Proficiency:• Extensive knowledge and experience using typical modeling systems used in South Africa, including ACRU, Pitman, PC SWMM, WRYM, WRPM, HEC-RAS, GoldSim, WEAP, SWAT, Mike modeling, and DSS tools.• Proficiency in GIS (Geographic Information Systems).• Solid experience in hydrological modeling, water resources planning, flood determination, mining sector, stormwater management planning, and water balances.• Familiarity with hydraulic design of drainage structures.• Water quality analysis for mining and industrial clients.• Exposure to multilateral development institutions or development finance institutions (an added advantage).Interpersonal and Networking Skills:• Strong ability to collaborate and work effectively with colleagues, clients, and stakeholders.• Excellent communication skills for client liaison, proposal development, and scientific report writing.• Mentoring junior staff members.Business Development and Project Management:• Proven track record in project management.• Ability to compile proposal documents, cost estimates, and manage project timelines.• Networking skills for business development.Experience with National Water Resources Ministries/Authorities (such as the DWS in South Africa) within a consulting environment.International project experience.Multidisciplinary water-related studies (national, regional water planning, individual water infrastructure project feasibility studies).Climate change impact assessment on water resources and supply.Risk and vulnerability assessments related to climate and water.Development of hydro-informatics systems and hydrological databases.Design and implementation of hydrological gauging networks.Modeling and implementation of contemporary adaptation options (such as Ecosystem-based Adaptation).
