Our client currently has an opportunity for a Sustainable Development Manager to develop a long term sustainability strategy and ensure the successful implementation thereof, encompassing areas such as Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S), Environment and Security, oversees and leads the SHE Department and is responsible for the planning, directing and coordinating programs and initiatives aimed at improving the Sustainable Developmental performance of the company.In order to integrate sustainability practices within the current business model, the Sustainable Development Manager will identify external and internal sustainability trends and detect potential risks and opportunities with the aim to assist our client to become a leader amongst its industry peers in corporate governance and sustainability and integrate SHE Strategic processes throughout the organisation.Position details:Type: PermanentReports to: General ManagerReporting, total staff compliment: 9Job titles of direct reports:Safety SuperintendentEnvironmental SpecialistSHE RepresentativeWellness PractitionerHealthcare NurseSecurity ManagerHygienistDocument ControllerESG CoordinatorJob description / core competencies:Overview of the Job’s Tasks:Develop and implement Sustainable Development strategies and programs.Monitor and evaluate the impact of Sustainable Development on the company and its processes.Identify opportunities for improvement and implement them.Implement Sustainable Development monitoring and control systems.Compile scope of work and tender specifications for identified activities to be placed on tender.Ensure compliance with Sustainable Development regulations and standards.Participate in litigation and resolve Sustainable Developmental issues.Analyze data and produce reports and recommendations.Develop strategies and action plans to promote Sustainable Development.Communicate with regulators, business partners, stakeholders, and industry stakeholders.Oversee the development of procedures and processes related to Sustainable Development.Participate in awareness-raising activities related to sustainable development.Train and coach teams in Sustainable Development.Licence to Operate Ensures ongoing compliance with statutory SHE requirements for the maintenance of the mine licence to operate by:Your role in verifying compliance, advising line management, and assisting with implementing of new and existing SHE-related legislation and company rules is crucial to the company’s ongoing compliance.Ensuring that prevention inspections are not just completed regularly, but thoroughly, and that proper records are meticulously maintained.Ensuring that accidents are investigated and relevant documentation completed accurately within acceptable time frames.Empowers line management by providing comprehensive support and expertise in incident investigation and reporting, including providing templates for incident reports, conducting root cause analysis, and offering guidance on corrective actions).Department Management: Manages staff and business partner performance by:Setting performance standards and goals.Monitor and appraise performance against standards and agreed goals; take corrective action as required.Identifying training needs and arranging training to enhance performance.Collaborating with HR in the recruitment and selection of staff.Apply the appropriate HR procedures in the process of managing staff.Prepares (and works within) SHE budgets by:Submitting  and motivating budgetary requirements and finalise with the Chief Financial Officer.Report on cost variances and devise ways of minimising negative deviations.Provides technical leadership within this functional area by:Ensuring legal compliance with standards for safety, security, health/hygiene, risk, and environmental protection functions.Manage and coordinate the team, delivering weekly and monthly actions and reports.Establish and enforce SHE standards by developing an SHE communication strategy for the company at all staff levels (to include written information, “toolbox talks,” and management updates).Providing Safety, Health and Environmental expertise to managementRisk Encourage and support a risk management culture by:Developing and reporting on risk mitigation strategies and plans.Overseeing and managing the implementation of risk procedures.Implement and maintain corporate standards for sustainability management and reporting, including the production of the annual Sustainability ReportSafety Ensure ZERO HARM to employees within the areas of influence and ZERO repeat DMRE Safety Audit findings by:Working with the Safety Superintendent to establish safe working environments and safe work practices.Ensuring proper induction of new stores employees and periodic refresher training as required.Follow up on DMRE safety audit findings and eradicate control system weaknesses.Equipment and Systems:IsoMetrix Safety Management system ICAM surveillance equipment and system Workflow Employee Self Service systemDecisions and Judgements:Decisions made within the scope of agreed budgets and the Authority Delegation Framework.Has authority to make decisions in own area but must inform other members of management.Challenges and Demands of the job:Alignment of business partners with company goals and culture, especially the onboarding of new service providers/contractors.Statutory compliance and risk management within operational requirements/constraints.Stakeholder Relationships:Internal Stakeholders:Head Office, mine management team and line managers, employees, and business partners.External Stakeholders:Regulatory authorities – DMRE, Minerals Council, Mine Health and Safety Council, Department of Health, Business partner principals.Location: Northern CapeJob Qualifications, Skills & Experience:Degree Hons / National Higher Diploma in Safety Management (NQF Level 7) and 8 to 10 years’ experience Training in:Incident investigationCOMSOC 1 & 2Risk Assessment Management or leadership qualification will be advantageousJob Dimensions/Metrics:Holds a statutory appointment in terms of Mines Health and Safety Act, regulation 7.2 9.Competencies / Skills / Attributes required:Demonstrable management skills (planning, leading, organising, controlling)Report writing skillsProfessional, verbal, and written communication in EnglishCommunication and networking skills within the organisation and externallyMicrosoft Office Professional (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project)Knowledge of Environmental, Health, Hygiene and Security related regulations and requirementsKnowledge of the Mine Health and Safety Act and the application thereofStrong project management, conflict resolution and facilitation skillsStrong research skills and ability to analyse and interpret data to create reportsPersonal attributes:Self-starterTeam playerDrive and enthusiasmConceptual abilityTolerance for ambiguityInfluentialDevelopment orientationResult drivenPrepared to show initiativeCompany Description:MiningThe post Sustainable Development Manager appeared first on freerecruit.co.za.
