The CTO will oversee the organisation's technological requirements, as well as its research and development (R&D) efforts. Responsible for examining both short- and long-term organizational needs, the CTO will allocate resources and capital towards investments aimed at achieving strategic objectives.Key Tasks:Lead multidisciplinary engineering teams.Manage all aspects of engineering execution including technical budget, cost, schedule, and metrics.Establish and maintain the technical baseline to ensure contractual obligations are met efficiently.Conduct design reviews following ECSS methodology and ensure timely completion.Identify and advocate for capital expenditure investments to enhance engineering department efficiency.Provide technical input to proposals and tender responses.Budgets:Determine and monitor technical priorities to meet cost, schedule, quality, and performance targets for engineering projects.HR:Monitor staffing levels against planned work and ensure adequate resource allocation.Facilitate career development, coaching, and mentoring opportunities for employees.Quality:Develop, introduce, and maintain new processes as required.Conduct structured root cause analysis of engineering process failures and drive continuous improvement initiatives within the department.Additional Duties:Domestic and international travel as necessary.Prerequisites:Qualifications & Experience:Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in a relevant Engineering field.Master’s Degree or equivalent in a relevant Engineering field preferred.Demonstrated experience in managing high-tech, multimillion rand projects.Deep knowledge of space environment development and ECSS processes.Familiarity with environmental test methods and practices.Experience & Knowledge:Minimum of 8 years' engineering experience, including project management, preferably in a satellite engineering environment.At least 3 years in a senior engineering management role.Preference for candidates with manufacturing/production environment experience.Visionary leadership with a proven ability to motivate and inspire teams.Strong collaboration and partnership-building skills across diverse stakeholders.Effective communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.Experience in complex product development requiring cross-functional coordination.Implementation of engineering and management best practices in a rapidly growing team.Track record of building and mentoring top-notch engineering teams.Proficiency in creating accurate and concise presentations.Adaptability and resourcefulness in dynamic environments.If you are interested in finding out more, please reach out to e.sims@evona.com for more information.Please note relocation will be covered to move to South Africa.Seniority levelSeniority level Mid-Senior level Employment typeEmployment type Full-time Job functionJob function Information Technology Industries Staffing and Recruiting Referrals increase your chances of interviewing at EVONA by 2xGet notified about new Chief Technology Officer jobs in Somerset West, Western Cape, South Africa.We’re unlocking community knowledge in a new way.
