PLANT ENGINEER Ngodwana A vacancy exists for a Plant Engineer that will be responsible to monitor, troubleshoot,&optimize various equipment that drive processes in a plant with a strong emphasis on process improvement&plant maintenance. Qualifications and requirements: Mechanical Engineering Degree or equivalent, and commercial training Government Certificate of Competency (GCC) Factories Related Experience 11-15 years experience as a Plant Engineer in a power plant/utilities environment Ideally candidates who will not need to commute due to shut downs and emergency needs Hands on in the plant daily Key Performance Outputs: Develop strategies for the Engineering Department in line with O&M strategy Develop and ensure the implementation of Engineering department work instructions, policies, procedures and controls covering all areas of department activity so that all relevant procedural/legislative requirements are fulfilled while delivering a quality, cost-effective service Proactively reduce breakdowns, ensure effective plant preventative maintenance and plant improvements to deliver above target plant reliability Overview and assess planned maintenance activities to verify that it is carried out effectively Physically observe maintenance team on planned maintenance tasks when required Review PM reports and schedule and revise frequencies and plan interventions to prevent breakdowns Provide input into major breakdowns and analyse all breakdowns with maintenance team to determine root cause and determine requirements to implementation of corrective/preventive measures Skills and competencies Knowledge and understanding of power plant operations and associated risks. Knowledge and understanding of SHERQ management systems. Knowledge and understanding on conducting risk assessments. Good numeric reasoning ability. Good attention to detail. Organised, efficient and ability to multi-task. Deadline driven and the ability to work under pressure. Negotiation skills. Project management principles. Sound knowledge of human behaviour and occupational hygiene. Communication and presentation skills. Leadership skills. Procedure and report writing skills. Computer literacy (e.g. MS Excel, MS word, MS PowerPoint etc.). Auditing skills of all aspects of processes and the entire plant production. Team player, motivating, coaching and mentoring skills. Excellent legislative knowledge and the ability to implement and manage SHERQ legislation. Punctual and reactivity to emergency situations. Proactive and anticipation of risk.
