Harrismith Area – Free State: Our client is looking for a Farm Mechanic&Workshop Manager to join the team. The successful candidate will oversee the maintenance and repair of a diverse range of vehicles and equipment on a farm. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS High school diploma or equivalent. Technical or vocational training in mechanics is a plus. Relevant certifications in vehicle and equipment repair are advantageous. Qualified diesel mechanic ideally. Proven experience as a mechanic with expertise in diagnosing and repairing various types of vehicles and equipment, including trucks, tractors, motorcycles, and implements. Strong knowledge of diesel and gasoline engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and vehicle diagnostics. Previous experience in workshop management or supervisory role. Ability to schedule and prioritize repairs and maintenance tasks to ensure minimal downtime for farm operations. Inventory management skills to maintain necessary spare parts and tools. Proficiency in using a wide range of tools and equipment for vehicle and equipment repair. Welding and fabrication skills for custom modifications and repairs. Knowledge of safety regulations and practices, ensuring a safe working environment for the team. Ability to adhere to environmental and safety standards for the disposal of hazardous materials. Strong problem-solving abilities to diagnose and troubleshoot complex mechanical issues quickly and efficiently. Creative solutions for repairing older or custom-made farm equipment. Leadership skills to manage a team of mechanics and assistants in the workshop. Provide training and guidance to junior mechanics. Maintain detailed records of maintenance and repairs for each piece of equipment. Prepare reports on the workshop’s performance and expenses. Effective communication skills to interact with farm staff, suppliers, and contractors. Ability to explain complex technical issues to non-technical personnel. Zulu or Sotho language skills will be an advantage. Efficiently manage time and resources to meet repair deadlines and prevent equipment downtime. Physical fitness and stamina to perform manual tasks, including lifting heavy parts and equipment. Willingness to work extended hours during peak seasons or in emergency repair situations. A valid driver’s license with a clean driving record to operate farm vehicles for testing and transportation. Strong problem-solving abilities to diagnose and troubleshoot complex mechanical issues quickly and efficiently. Provide excellent customer service when interacting with farm personnel. Familiarity with various types and sizes of farm equipment, their specifications, and common maintenance issues. Ability to manage the workshop’s budget effectively, controlling costs and expenses.
