Job Title: Accountant Department: Finance Job Location: Johannesburg, South Africa Reports to: Group Finance Manager Employment Type: Permanent Expected Start Date: 01/07/2024 Job Introduction: The accountant is responsible for ensuring the administration and operational activities in the field of Finance. This includes payroll, debtors, creditors, tax administration and project management administration. Job Responsibilities: TECHNICAL TASKS Payroll: Responsible for the payroll administration of all permanent staff and contractors. Administer employee benefits, such as health insurance, retirement plans, and other perks. Collaborate with human resources department to ensure seamless integration between payroll and HR systems. Regularly review payroll processes to ensure efficiency and accuracy. Financial Accounting: Record and classify financial transactions ensuring all entries are accurate and complete. Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts to ensure consistency and accuracy in financial records. Assist in the preparation for internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation, explanations, and reconciliations. Calculate and prepare tax returns annually. Accurately accounting for VAT transactions, compilation of monthly VAT201 returns, timeous submission to SARS. Generate reports on fixed asset values, depreciation, and related financial metrics. Compilation of monthly management packs, as required by relevant stakeholders. Project Management: Identify and engage with project stakeholders to get insight into current or future projects. Compile and distribute project documentation at the close of the project. Seek feedback from stakeholders and adjust project activities accordingly. Close out contracts, release project resources, and communicate project closure. TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT OF STAFF Conduct induction sessions to equip the new employee with the payroll system including the administration of timesheets, invoices, and finance-related SOP’s. OTHER TASKS Stay updated on changes in tax laws and regulations. Ensure compliance with accounting policies and procedures. Job Requirements: Qualifications: Bachelor of Commerce degree in Accounting or Finance. Experience: Minimum 5 years working experience in a finance or accounting related role. Sound knowledge of South African Accounting and Taxation practices and principles. Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel (Advanced). Exposure to cross border transactions. Knowledge and Attributes : Attention to detail and strong analytical skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to financial challenges.
