Job Description To interpret and provide recommendations from integrated structural and tectonic data to De Beers Exploration to support decision making at various phases of exploration. To contribute to the continuous improvement of the application and integration of structural geology and tectonic interpretation in the Exploration environment. Functions of the role Decision making and support Provide geological insights to support Exploration decision making and make recommendations. Integrate structural interpretations with other datasets in collaboration with other specialists/stakeholders for targeting projects, active venture projects, Technical Reviews, or mine REP projects, for the construction of geological models and developing an understanding of the diamond mineral system at various scales. Continuous Improvement Assess and make recommendations regarding the generation, integration and interpretation of structural and related information, particularly with regard to the incorporation of new tools into existing workflows. Develop and maintain on-going relationships with peers to continuously identify new methodology and ideas, as well as to present recommendations for improvement or research projects. Leadership and Integration Manage self to ensure continued growth and to create/use platforms whereby technical knowledge is exchanged within the wider De Beers Exploration environment. Identify appropriate resources from within the other Exploration functional areas as well as from external organisations to assist and enhance the delivery of projects. Provide relevant and up-to-date technical training/guidance to appropriate exploration staff in technical or other fields of competency. Develop own basic Project Management skills. Develop data analytics/scripting skills relevant to the role. Qualifications Formal Qualifications: BSc Honours Degree in Geology with focus on structure and tectonic evolution. MSc/PhD (NQF 9/10) would be a distinct advantage. Registered professional in a recognised body (e.g. SACNASP) or eligible for such registration. Experience: At least 5 years’ relevant experience post qualification, preferably applied to mineral exploration. Ability to acquire, integrate and report geological (particularly structural) information and the interpreted tectonic evolution of study areas. Scientific publication record would be advantageous to demonstrate ability. Data quality control and data assurance experience. Data management and data analysis experience. Additional Information Knowledge: Expertise in structural geology, the application of isotope and geochronological methodologies, igneous and metamorphic petrology. Proficient in field mapping and core logging including structural measurements. Proficiency in the use of GIS (e.g. ESRI ArcGISPro) and 3D geological visualisation and modelling packages (e.g. Geoscience Analyst, Leapfrog) for data integration, interpretation and the construction of spatial products. Proficiency in the use of tectonic reconstruction applications would be an advantage (e.g. GPlates). Proficiency in general productivity software (e.g. MS Office suite). Knowledge and good understanding of exploration techniques and processes. Skills: Ability to travel, including internationally and work in the field for extended periods, including at remote sites. Analytical and interpretation of complex data. Written and verbal communication. Time management. Technical report writing. Project Management. Additional Requirements: Valid Drivers License.
