St John’s College is a world-class Christian, African school situated on a historic campus in Houghton, Johannesburg, offering quality education from Nursery School to Sixth Form. The school has an outstanding academic record and has a fine reputation in sports, music, drama and debating.We are searching for a highly motivated Director of IT to lead the St John’s College innovative and forward-thinking IT Team. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing high quality, efficient and integrated IT and communication services to staff, students and parents. They will have a balanced focus on delivering excellent IT support delivery and have a strategic approach to maintaining and developing the School's ICT infrastructure, including its voice and data networks, devices and software.We seek to appoint an individual from September 2024 who demonstrates an ability to:Enhance and communicate an IT strategy in alignment with the overall organisational goals, collaborating with stakeholders to ensure technology is effectively integrated into the educational and professional service functions.Refine the IT implementation plan to enable the successful implementation of the IT strategy.Work collaboratively with the Senior Exec team to accurately evaluate the quality of IT services in accordance with strategic objectives, continually innovating and developing service delivery.Assist in the procurement process of contractors and suppliers for projects or operations maintenance where required.Ensure the delivery of projects and operations within budget including preparing annual budget bids and monitoring spending.Oversee the procurement of IT services, computers and other IT, advising the Head of Finance and Operations on how to achieve best value.To deliver within the relevant delegated budgets including preparing annual budget and monitoring spending. Ensure best value is achieved across all functions of the IT Department striving to improve efficiencies and minimise waste.Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of a reliable and scalable IT infrastructure, including networks, servers, hardware, av equipment, software, and cloud-based services.INHERENT REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITIONBachelor’s degree in IT related discipline (or equivalent)Technical IT qualification such as Azure Solutions Architect Expert (or similar)Proven track record of successfully leading IT services in educational establishments, with an understanding of the unique IT requirements for learning management, safeguarding and educational technology tools preferredLeading IT services across multi-site organisations, with a mixture of in-house and contracted network managementAnalysis, implementation and evaluation of business needs and the ability to measure successes and adapt accordingly.Experience of leading and managing organisational/technological change including the alignment/migration of systems whilst maintaining stakeholder buy-inDemonstrable experience in performance managing professional staff, driving morale and raising standards, and promoting team ethosHighly analytical, strategic thinker with the ability to research solutions, and translate into actionable plans aligning with the St John’s College prioritiesDemonstrate financial acumen, with the ability to manage budgets, control costs and make sound financial decisions relating to IT investmentsAt St John’s College, we are committed to proactive safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all our children.
