About the Role: The Engineering Underwriter is a key role within the organisation, responsible for evaluating and underwriting risks associated with operational power and engineering projects. This position requires a deep understanding of the South African market, strong analytical skills, and technical expertise in engineering disciplines. The Engineering Underwriter will develop customised insurance policies, collaborate with clients and brokers, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards. Working Hours: Hybrid Salary: R700, 000 - R900,000 - per annum dependent on qualifications and experience Requirements: Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or Civil Engineering; At least 5 years of experience in reinsurance or within a direct market player with a significant engineering business. Specific experience in the South African market is essential. Experience in risk management or claims is advantageous; Strong analytical and risk assessment capabilities, excellent communication and client engagement skills, and technical expertise in engineering disciplines; A commitment to continuous learning and staying updated with industry trends; Ability to work collaboratively, mentor junior staff, and maintain high ethical standards. Role&Responsibilities: Evaluate and analyse risks in engineering projects, particularly in the operational power sector, to determine appropriate coverage needs; Create and underwrite engineering insurance policies tailored to the South African market, ensuring competitive and comprehensive coverage; Stay informed about market trends, emerging risks, and competitive landscape to make informed underwriting decisions; Work closely with clients and brokers to understand their needs, provide customised insurance solutions, and build strong relationships; Offer technical advice on engineering projects, leveraging knowledge in mechanical, electrical, chemical, or civil engineering, and provide risk management strategies to mitigate potential losses; Assist the claims department in evaluating and processing engineering-related claims, ensuring fair and timely resolutions; Prepare detailed reports, risk assessments, and policy documentation, maintaining accurate records of underwriting decisions and client interactions. Engage in continuous professional development to stay abreast of industry developments, new technologies, and regulatory changes; Work collaboratively with the underwriting team and other departments, providing mentorship and guidance to junior underwriters and support staff; Ensure all underwriting activities comply with regulatory requirements and internal company standards, upholding ethical standards and integrity. #J-18808-Ljbffr
