Qualifications and skills We would like the new incumbent to possess the following qualifications, skills, knowledge and experience: Legal qualification - LLB (preferred) or similar Law qualification. Completed RE1, RE3 and/or RE5 is advantageous. Minimum of 5 years’ experience in FAIS Act related compliance. Advantageous: Approved Compliance Officer (CAT I, CAT IV and CAT II, IIA) with the Financial Sector Conduct Authority. Experience and exposure to the requirements of the FAIS Act, FICA, NCA and POPIA, FMA and other financial industry regulations. Computer Literacy - Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook). Strong understanding of relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards. Excellent research and analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information. Proven track record of developing and implementing compliance frameworks, development of compliance monitoring plans and drafting policies and procedures. Proven track record of designing and implementing innovative compliance solutions that streamline processes and enhance regulatory adherence. Strong analytical skills with the ability to synthesize complex information and translate insights into actionable recommendations. Experience working in a regulated industry, such as financial services is preferred. Compliance Research and Development Specialists must maintain composure and make rational decisions even when facing challenging compliance issues or regulatory changes. Social skills: Strong interpersonal and should be adept at communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution to navigate complex compliance requirements successfully. Communication: Should be able to articulate ideas effectively, listen actively, and adapt their communication style to different audiences. Adaptability: Should be flexible and resilient, able to adjust their strategies and approaches as needed to meet compliance objectives. Stress management: Given the demanding nature of compliance work the Compliance Research and Development Specialists should be able to cope with pressure, prioritize tasks, and maintain a healthy work-life balance to prevent burnout. Problem-solving: Should be able to approach challenges with a proactive mindset, seeking opportunities for improvement and resolution. Teamwork: Should be skilled at working collaboratively with cross-functional teams, leveraging each member's strengths to achieve common compliance goals. Ethical leadership: Should uphold ethical standards, act with transparency, and inspire trust and confidence in their colleagues and stakeholders.
