Job Purpose: The Research Manager will be responsible for ensuring effective interaction between the Office of Research and Postgraduate Studies; faculties and brands with respect to all matters related to the IIE and the Research and Postgraduate Studies Office but in particular towards the support and development of staff in building research capacity and establishing the IIE as a research intensive institution. Duties&Responsibilities: Establishment and maintenance of the research culture that is core to the vision of the institution and reflected in the value statements by promoting collaboration between the Office of Research and Postgraduate Studies. Active commitment to research and building supervision capacity in the IIECAT as well as the IIE Brand. Undertake and organise training and development of academic staff as researchers and/or supervisors. Develop and implement a research programme within IIE CAT. Actively support academic staff studying towards a postgraduate qualification. Attend to administrative responsibilities as delegated by the Dean Research and Postgraduate Studies. Demonstrated commitment to the development, implementation, and monitoring of all IIE policies. Participation in key governance structures and committees as may be required from time to time. Produce at least two fully recognised research outputs per year that represents the IIE. Assist with the review of requests to conduct research and ethics clearance on research to be done on IIE subjects or artefacts. Any other relevant duties as may be required. Minimum Requirements: Qualifications Doctoral Degree (NQF 10) with research publication and/or supervision experience would be preferred. Candidates with a Masters degree at NQF level 9, preferably a research Master’s, with research publication and/or supervision experience. The candidate must be registered for Doctoral Studies (NQF10). Experience A minimum of 5 years relevant work experience in tertiary education sector. Must be an established academic with a research publication record and successful supervision of postgraduate students. Research publications in accredited scientific journals; presenting research papers at conferences; supervision of postgraduate research dissertations and/or reports. Understanding of the HE regulatory environment. Understanding of the NQF and associated regulatory environment. Key Competencies: Excellent communication skills particularly in English, both verbal and written, including the ability to communicate to a range of audiences in a way that communication is clear, concise, specific and accurate and accessible to the target audience. Interpersonal skills characterized by tact and diplomacy and an ongoing ability to participate effectively in a team that is spread across the country. Capacity to get others to follow by example and the ability to manage matrix management and communication structures. High delivery ability demonstrated capacity to organize own work and work against tight deadlines. Attention to detail. Ability to liaise cooperatively with other academics and colleagues within the faculty and brands. Proven ability to work constructively as part of a team, display initiative and work strategically and independently with limited supervision. Proven record of managing research projects to a successful conclusion. Able to acquire new skills to keep up with new technologies and or new knowledge areas within relevant disciplines Salary: Market related.
