Send an email about this job to a friend or to yourself. We are currently seeking a highly skilled HEAD OF FINANCE to lead the financial operations of a prominent NGO in the health industry. This role acts as Head of Finance and supports leadership in financial decision-making, strategic financial input, developing and implementing financial procedures to improve and maintain the financial health of the organisation.To support the CFO in the administrative, financial, and risk management operations of the organisation, and the continuous development and monitoring of control systems designed to preserve the organisation’s assets and report accurate financial results. JOB DESCRIPTION: Job Title: Head of Finance Job Type: Permanent Job Industry: NGO - Heath Sector Location: Parktown, Johannesburg KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Financial Management and Reporting: Manage and provide leadership to the finance department as per direction from the CFO to ensure the financial infrastructure is stable and supports the future demands of the organisation. Manage daily operations by: Verifying the accuracy and quality of all financial information ensuring it is maintained in terms of international financial reporting standards. Ensuring that performance measures and monitoring systems are in place that support the organisation’s strategic direction. Managing and overseeing reporting, monitoring, and recording systems attain the highest standard of financial integrity. Ensuring that the organisation’s financial systems, procedures and policies are in line with best industry practices. Ensuring that the designed core cost structure and basis of recovery is implemented on a monthly basis from the individual projects. Ensuring cash flow management of the business by monitoring cash balances and cash forecasts and tracking cash flow to ensure it is appropriate and sustainable. Reviewing and authorising EFT payments and supporting documentation. Overseeing adherence to the law and organisation’s policies. Implementing operational best practices. Overseeing the issuance of financial information. Champion excellent management of financial resources, promoting efficiency, high performance, and overall value for money. Promote the review of financial policy, systems, and practices to deliver continual improvement, automation and self-service and explore systems full benefits. Manage and oversee the fixed assets of the organisation ensuring the accurate recording, tracking and related reporting. Partner with various departments to formulate annual budget inputs for their “area of responsibility” to ensure that the budget is adequate and appropriate. Ensure the timely preparation of robust budgets from a financial perspective, testing the underlying assumptions and quality assuring the cost, benefits, and mitigating risks. Analyse, interpret, and communicate financial and performance data, provide financial advice, and influence decision making where appropriate to achieve budget, targets, and strategies. Monitor budget expenditure ensuring that expenditure is in line with what is required. Complete appropriate returns and produce unqualified statement of accounts in accordance with the statutory legislation, practices, and timetables. Prepare, and when necessary, present, various reports including monthly management packs, current reports, forecasting reports and ad-hoc reports to meet reporting requirements and ad-hoc requests. Support in the preparation of quarterly submission of the organisation’s financial reporting at Board meetings by preparing financial information and reports as required. Support in the preparation of monthly submission of the organisation’s financial reporting at Exco meetings by preparing financial information and reports as required. Responsible for ensuring that payroll is correctly funded each month by transferring cash from projects bank accounts to payroll so that the reviewed and authorised monthly payroll can be released. Support the Financial Controller with input required for budgets and cash flow forecasts. Actively participate in the FINCO monthly meetings. Manage the external and internal audit and ensure that information is timeously furnished. 2. People management: Manage staff (in line with policies, procedures, and standards) by: Partnering with HR on recruitment and induction of new team members. Managing the performance review process. Identifying training needs or staff support needs and ensuring that such training or support is provided. Mentoring and guiding staff by facilitating regular meetings. 3. Stakeholder management: Develop relationships with relevant financial institutions, internal, external and funder auditors and stakeholders to ensure good working relations. Manage and retain relationships with various vendors to meet the requirements of the organisation. Support the Financial Controller with information required on a day-to-day basis. 4. Risk management: Understand and mitigate key elements of the company's risk profile and support in identifying and reporting financial risks to the DCFO to ensure implementation of corrective measures and/or risks identified are mitigated to an acceptable residual risk. Ensure that record keeping meets the requirements of auditors and government agencies. Actively participate in the OPCO monthly meetings. 5. System Implementations: Project manage the new system implementation upgrade and get involved in the training, testing and change management. Manage the assets projects and plan to ensure it is successfully executed, evaluated, and reported on. 6. Ad-hoc Tasks: Other ad-hoc tasks delegated by the CFO. QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: 1. Minimum Qualification and Experience: CA(SA) or equivalent. MBA advantageous. At least 8 to 10 years’ progressively responsible experience in a senior financial management role. Solid staff managerial and supervisory experience working in cross functional teams. Solid knowledge of financial accounting policies and procedures. Understanding of International Financial Reporting Standards. Enterprise resource planning /systems experience. Knowledge of donor grants and the non-profit sector will be advantageous. 2. Behavioral Competencies and Skills: Excellent communications and presentation skills in English. Strategic thinking. Analytical. Problem solving. Results-oriented. 3. Technical competencies and skills: MS Office. Microsoft Dynamics SL financial reporting software. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
