Summary:The Senior Manager I: Planning is expected to contribute to the development and implementation of Productivity & Optimisation strategy and planning by translating the strategic imperatives to drive productivity, associate engagement and workforce management strategic thinking, planning and oversight across Massmart Store Operations. The role is also expected to collaborate with banners to provide efficient workforce management expertise and one best way practices for both Central Operations and banner led projects, as well as enabling the eCommerce Strategy for workforce management through sourcing solutions that will include simplifying and digitally transforming the workforce management practices across the banners to ensure improved productivity and Associate engagementResponsibilities:Strategy and Planning• Contribute to the development of Productivity & Optimisation strategy and plans by articulating all workforce management priorities to achieve business objectives.• Develop Planning short term plan to ensure execution and alignment to the Productivity & Optimisation strategy and goals. Drive effective implementation once approved.• Analyse trends and patterns to provide input in the evaluation of short- and long-term impacts, returns and risks of workforce management choices to accurately forecast growth, costs, and business challenges associated with improvement initiatives.• Understand business needs, with special focus on eCommerce, in respect of Workforce Management objectives and align them through planning and design into Massmart Store Operations.• Review of the current WFM system configuration and provide recommendations for continuous improvement.• Identify, understand and introduce global workforce management leading best practise, trends, innovation and developmentsPolicy, Process and Standards Management• Engage with the banners and Group eCommerce in formulating and managing labour standards to drive efficiencies.• Guide effective banner and in-store implementation of policy, processes and standards and ensure compliance to all Massmart and legislative requirements relating to workforce management.• With the understanding of business and technology, solve workforce management business processes problems across the banners.• Ensure relevant stakeholders involved in workforce management initiatives receive the communication, instruction and guidance required to act in accordance with policies and procedures.Productivity and Workforce Management• Apply workforce management best practices to promote labour productivity growth (including—but not limited to—FTEs, WFM tools, metric forecasting, labour standards, WFM-related ratios, and scheduled labour costs).• Conduct comparative analysis to drive behaviour through benchmarks to produce improved performance and productivity measures.• Deliver on eCommerce continuous improvement by identifying and assessing new technology, processes and concepts that will add value as a result of the ever changing needs and complex world of eCommerce.• Leverage relationships to influence stakeholders to build, maintain and optimise resource models to ensure best practice is adopted and to minimise costs.• Provide guidance to workforce management stakeholders across banners to support the optimisation of store structures and maximisation of labour productivity.• Design and develop analytics reports for stakeholders to ensure continuous monitoring of operations and initiatives to allow for timeous coarse correction.• Provide required expertise in the roll-out of workforce management initiatives including (but not limited to):• Assessment of current performance baselines through analysis of data and evaluation of key business components.• Identification of gaps, opportunities, and needed improvements in key business functions.• Redesign of initiatives and processes for key business functions.• Continuous evaluation of current practices and development of improvement solutions.• Provision of proper controls, tools, and materials to enhance behaviour change.Modelling and statistical analyses to inform productivity improvementsStakeholder Engagement• Build and develop WFM stakeholder relationships across the business to ensure the adoption of operational innovation and to maximize the achievement of business goals.• Leverage WFM stakeholder relationships to drive the delivery of efficiencies through broader functions that impact store operations and business profitability.Communicate and liaise effectively with stakeholders, building credibility, establishing rapport and maintaining relationshipsBudgeting and Reporting• Participate in annual planning and budget development for Productivity & Optimisation to support strategic operational goals.• Control expenses within the allocated budget by comparing and analysing actual results with plans and forecasts.• Report on allocated budgets for Planning initiatives.• Measure and report on ROI for Planning initiatives.• Report success against Planning scorecard on a monthly and quarterly basis.• Monitor the progress of set key performance areas and report on department performance on a weekly and monthly basis.Requirements:• Bachelor’s Degree or Bachelor of Technology/ Advanced Diploma in Industrial Engineering related qualification.• Relevant workforce management certification or qualification preferable.Professional Experience:• Minimum of 8 years’ experience in Data Analysis/ Statistics/Computer Science preferable in a Retail / Wholesale environment of which 5 years must have been managing a team (directly or indirectly).• Application of MOST (Maynard Operation Sequence Technique) for process improvement.• Experience in workforce management systems• Experience in Retail Operations will be an advantage"Please note that only the following information is required in your CV:Contact details (email and contact number);
