Remuneration Structure Very Competitive monthly salary Accommodation Meals Uniforms / Laundry Provident Fund Medical Aid Rotational Days Off Cycle Annual Leave Overview The Field Assistant will provide a service to the lodge’s which is in effect the department’s customer. The Field Assistant is fully responsible for assisting the Concession Manager and or Head Guide on the concession. Skills and Requirements Matric A tertiary qualification in conservation, Field Guide – Ranger training – Preferred Security Qualification – preferred Good computer literacy Track and Sign qualified. Clean Police / criminal record Good basic maintenance background Knowledge of water pumps and pipes Road and fence maintenance Bush and brush cutting – chainsaw operation. Mechanically astute – vehicles and machines Ability to drive and operate a tractor will be an advantage. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to use Compass and GPS – general Mapwork. Ability to communicate effectively on Radio. Snake handling qualified – preferred . Duties and Responsibilities The main purpose of the Concession Field Assistant is to ensure detection and reporting of any potential security incursions and the upkeep of the environment. The Concession Assistant will oversee the following : Detection work before SANParks gate open each day and report any incursions to Concession Manager and Park officials and APU units. Polite and courteous to public and park vehicles Radio in tracks and sightings of high priority game e.g. Big 5 , Wild Dog, and Cheetah on the Game Drive Channel Clearing of debris and reporting of sightings to the Guiding Department along all routes – all roads need to be checked every 21 days. Check rainfall gauges and report readings in Document and record any dead animals of carcasses. Conduct feedback reports and briefings : Update FDI Boards Fire Alerts and contingency plans. Assist with Night Camp Set ups. Vehicle maintenance and roadworthy checks Repairs on Drag rig equipment. Charge and maintain all firefighting equipment.
