CORE PURPOSE OF JOBThe Senior Engineer will play a key role in delivering mobility and energy system projects within the national electric mobility programme. The candidate will have interactions with multi-disciplinary teams to ensure successful project delivery and will need to provide technical lead and support on topics related to integration of systems and sub-systems, including market research and data analysis. As a dynamic environment, supporting functions andresponsibilities will evolve, therefore flexibility and adaptability will be key.KEY PERFORMANCE AREASEngineeringResearch and development of the electric mobility ecosystemAlignment of technical specifications, standards and other data to evaluate the functionality, cost, and maintenance requirements of projects, designs or applicationsSupport the development, assembly, operation and maintenance of vehicle and energy systems and infrastructureEnsure all work is done in accordance with acceptable engineering methods and principlesProject ManagementDevelopment of project plans, timelines, budgets and resource requirementsManage allocated project resources to ensure project delivery with staff, stakeholders and sub-contractorsDocumentation of projects according to internal and external administration standardsSourcing of new projects and business opportunitiesGeneral:Provide support for electric vehicle system and energy system related projectsMaintain alignment to technology and market trends for scoping and delivery of projectsReporting to senior leadershipCORE COMPETENCIES AND REQUIREMENTSMinimum Qualifications: M+4 Degree (Professional Bachelor or Bachelor Honours) in Mechatronics EngineeringMinimum Experience: At least 5 years relevant experience in a multi-disciplinary engineering environment for the responsibilities (excluding internship and trainee positions).Desirable Additional Education, Work Experience and Personal Qualities:Professional Registration: Engineering Council of South Africa (Acquired/Initiated) (If not yet registered must be eligible to register within 12 month)Master’s Degree in Mechatronics Engineering (Acquired/Initiated)Strong knowledge of Automotive and Renewable Energy systemsPrior experience with Electric VehiclesAnalytical and problem-solving skillsAbility to work autonomously with minimal guidance across a range of stakeholdersTeam player with strong desire to support team successEnthusiasm for technology (mobility and renewable energy)Excellent communication skills (written, verbal and presentation)Nelson Mandela University reserves the right not to make an appointment.
