PURPOSE OF THE POSITION The Port Elizabeth-based non-profit organisation aims to appoint an energetic and skilled Marketing and Communications Manager to lead its communications efforts. This role will be pivotal in managing the brand and implementing strategies for content distribution, email marketing, advertising, partnership development, and overall communication goals. Additionally, the manager will play a key role in establishing the organization as a thought leader in a wider audience. By implementing integrated and strategic communications and public relations strategies, the selected candidate will enhance the visibility of the organisation's programs, events, and initiatives within the broader African community. Reporting directly to the CEO, the Marketing and Communications Manager will be instrumental in driving the organization's growth and success through innovative and impactful communication strategies. KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS You will be responsible for the development of all goals, strategies, and implementation plans to execute comprehensive marketing campaigns for the organisation. You will drive the creation, enhancement, and development of programs to promote the organisation and its core messaging. You will take charge of producing high-quality content that engages the organisation’s stakeholders and builds brand recognition. Main duties include creating informative content, press releases, articles, and media opportunities to share the organisation’s brand, products, and services. Some marketing goals will include maintaining the brand integrity of the organisation and strategically positioning the organisation as a trusted source for knowledge and information, while establishing and enhancing the organisation’s status as a leader in the conservation sector. Key Deliverables include but are not limited to: Annual organisational events calendar. Annual Report and other regular publications (both formal and informal). A current, functional, and responsive website – including the network maps and learner management system – reflecting all the organisation’s impact portfolios. Regular press releases, newsletters, and other communications outputs. Monthly relevant social media schedules, including blog posts, with supporting media spend and analytics reporting and interpretation. Community management of the organisation’s social media platforms. ROI impact reporting to key stakeholders, including trustees. SKILLS/ KNOWLEDGE/ EXPERIENCE Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or similar field. A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a similar role. Work experience in the not-for-profit or non-governmental sector preferred. Proven experience creating targeted content is advantageous. Strong knowledge of communication practices and techniques. Must be a confident communicator and presenter. Strong writing, editing, proofreading, layout and design, professional printing/publishing skills are essential, including ability to present concepts verbally. Superior project management and time management skills. A wide degree of creativity and latitude. Strong knowledge and understanding of current trends in digital media/social media. Clean and professional Social Media presence. A passion for the sustainability and marine conservation agenda a plus. Valid driver’s license essential. Must be comfortable driving alone. SA Citizen with a clear criminal history. Willingness to travel (local, national and international). Location: Gqeberha (100% office-based) Duration: Full-time 12-month fixed-term contract with the potential to renew for an additional 3 years. Commencement date: As soon as possible.
