Not only are we One of Canada's Best Employers, we are one of Canada's Greenest Employers.Your opportunity:As the Fire Prevention Officer, you will ensure the compliance of our fire prevention and protection program advising on requirements for new construction and renovation projects, and continually reviewing current fire and life safety systems and procedures recommending preventative or alternative life safety measures and corrective action, evaluating risk factors and inspecting buildings to determine fire prevention requirements.Your responsibilities will include:Conducting routine building inspections for fire and life safety issuesAssessing and recommending corrective action to resolve code violationsImplementing complex and technical emergency fire safety plansImplementing temporary protective alternatives to provide for fire safety during planned and unplanned system isolations and shutdownsAnalyzing and recommending corrective actions and procedural changes following fire occurrencesInspecting the construction and installation of fire and life safety equipment and systemsAdvising project managers and contractors on fire prevention requirements in relation to changes to construction specification for new building and renovation projectsEssential Qualifications:Advanced College Diploma (3 years) or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.Minimum five years related experience in all areas of fire safety coupled with a demonstrated knowledge of relevant fire safety legislation, codes, standards, and proceduresA strong working knowledge of the Ontario Fire Code, NFPA Standards, CAN/ULC Standards, Ontario Building Code and other applicable statutes and regulations and their applications is required.Knowledge of kitchen suppression systems, kitchen hood systems and special suppression systems is required.Demonstrated experience of property inspections, codes, by-laws, acts and related regulations.Demonstrated experience in reviewing drawings and specifications for new construction and renovations is required.Demonstrated experience of reading building permits, standards, and manufacturers installation manualsDemonstrated experience or knowledge in investigating fires for the determining origin and cause.Detailed understanding of fire alarm system terminology and operations is required.Ability to operate a variety of extinguishers, fire alarm systems, special detection devices, and sprinkler and standpipe systems is required.Proficiency in Microsoft Office (e.g., Excel, Word, Outlook etc.) specifically with spreadsheets, internet research, word processing, and email is required.Excellent interpersonal skills with a customer serviceorientation.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage conflicting priorities and deadlines.Assets (Nonessential):CFAA Fire Alarm Technician Training Program – publicly registered in good standing as a Registered TechnicianTo be successful in this role you will be:AdaptableProactiveSelf-directedTeam player Closing Date: 05/31/2024, 11:59PM ETEmployee Group: USW Appointment Type: Budget - Continuing Schedule: Full-TimePay Scale Group & Hiring Zone: USW Pay Band 12 -- $78,308 with an annual step progression to a maximum of $100,144.
