We provide diverse programs and research opportunities while consistently producing high-impact research that is among the most highly cited in computer science.Your opportunity:Reporting to the Associate Director, MScAC Partnerships, the incumbent will focus on strategic business development and cultivate lasting industrial relationships. The Research and Business Development Officer will coordinate with internal units including the University's Innovations & Partnerships Office, and will help drive commercialization initiatives and develop collaborative research projects throughresearch internship opportunities. This is a critical outward and inward facing role at the senior staff level.Your responsibilities will include:Developing and implementing plans to support areas of research relevant to industry needs that are consistent with the University’s academic missionWriting grant and investment proposals to acquire proof of concept and product development fundingDeveloping and implementing strategies to maximize the economic and social impact of commercialization partnershipsUsing formal negotiation skills to settle the financial and business terms of all commercialization agreementsIdentifying, developing and executing strategies for research and development collaborationsServing as a resource on specific issues to a group of specialistsDeveloping project schedules including milestones, critical path, timelines, deliverables and reportingForecasting, planning and monitoring multiple complex budgetsEssential Qualifications:Master's Degree in Computer ScienceSix to seven years of recent and related experience in industrial and academic research setting related to computer science, statistics and mathematics, undertaking both hands-on research & business development (R&D) and formulation of industry-based research projects, with experience managing and promoting professional graduate programsExperience working with and supporting graduate students, preferably through internship cyclesExperience managing program budgetsExperience writing documents (such as complex business contracts, grant and investment proposals) and compiling statistical reportsExperience in assessing, formulating, and articulating a business case for partnering on high-quality academic-industry research and development problemsExcellent problem solving, decision making and facilitation skillsExcellent interpersonal skills to build consensus, employ multiple approaches and manage the conflicting expectations of multiple stakeholdersExcellent communication and presentation skillsExcellent organizational and time management skillsAbility to exercise discretion and tactAbility to build relationships with a pleasant and professional demeanorAbility to work independently and in a team settingAssets (Nonessential):Experience with industry-academic governmental funding programs such as through Mitacs, NSERC, and OCITo be successful in this role you will be: Closing Date: 06/10/2024, 11:59PM ETEmployee Group: USW Appointment Type: Budget - Continuing Schedule: Full-TimePay Scale Group & Hiring Zone: USW Pay Band 19 -- $119,184 with an annual step progression to a maximum of $152,410.
