A global medical company is seeking a Unit Manager to join their team.Responsibilities: Unit/Patient Care:Ensure that nursing staff are documenting all information during treatments and that this information is discussed, should there be any problems with the patient information (eg bloods) solutions must be found immediately and patients must be treated accordingly.Supervise and evaluate the quality of the patient care provided by conducting observation rounds.Ensure that the "on call"/emergency cell number is available and easily accessible by staff and doctors.Accompany the doctor during the patient rounds and record any instructions and/or other information that the doctor provides - get scripts where required.When needed, communicate professionally to family and healthcare professionals re: Patient health status.Liaise with medical staff to co-ordinate medical and nursing management of patient care, and ensure clinical staff and patient care are done according to company policies.Promote growth in patient numbers by effective marketing and utilization of the KidneyWise programme.Establish and maintain good relationships with both patients and doctors.Ensure Unit is compliant with Department of Health requirementsEnsure that renal staff are professional, caring, and respectful to patients at all times.Always ensure the fair treatment of our patients by all staff irrespective of race, religion, ethnicity, or culture.Ensure open communication with other units, RM’s, colleagues and Head Office.Undertake a comprehensive and accurate nursing assessment on patient arrival for dialysis regarding vital data, pre and post weights and clinical appearance, and treatment decisions.Ensure documentation is current, accurate, and timely. Maintain confidentiality with a legal and ethical framework relating to patient and health care team.Take appropriate nursing actions in emergency situations and other situations that may compromised patient safety.Contribute, support and teach colleagues to enhance professional developmentEnsure Clinical AIS Targets are met and POA for out of range resultsReports:Monthly reports are to be completed and sent to the Regional Manager.Manage the clinical pathway variance report according to blood results.Report on activities of the Unit over the month, by way of email, this will include:RO Service Report and RO Readings Report.Personnel performance irregularities.Stock control update and any stock irregularities found throughout the month.Number of patients dialysed and patient care problems/issues throughout the month, including hospital infections. .Monthly stats and blood results reports and Clinical pathway variance report.Water results and appropriate actions taken if necessaryReport on unexpected overtime throughout the month and the reason for such overtime.Patient Incident Report (if any);Unit Incident Report (if any).Any other Reports that the Regional Manager may request.Acute Dialysis:Ensure RN’s and unsupervised CT’s are conducting acute dialysis in hospital as per requirements and B.Braun SOP. DataWise System:Unit staff are aware of any changes to this system and trained accordingly.DataWise is being filled in accurately and that additional information is submitted to Head Office timeously.Billing summary is up to date and checked daily.Blood results are populated correctly, and necessary clinical intervention is discussed with Doctor and implemented with Doctor’s script.MSV Check is done monthly for medical aids and reported to Head Office.Corrective action on abnormal results to be completed on Datawise.PD blood information to be submitted at least twice a year (every 6 months).The ClockWatch face scanner is working and integrating with DataWise.Patient specific data is filled in DataWise.Exit report corresponds with number of patients in the unit.Treatment prescription and Prescription Authorizations are filled in on DW.Blood results do pull through on DW from the different laboratories.Blood results are monitored and if action was taken on results out of range.Dialysis results and billings corresponding with attendance registers.Daily billings and COGS are filled in correctly on DW.Billing summary is monitored daily by the Unit manager to ensure that every patient who received treatment was billed.Complications, hospitalizations, and access complications are filled in correctly.Water results and water testing are done according to the company policy.Machine hours and disinfections are recorded and managed monthly.Stock:Ensure accurate monitoring and recording of stock in accordance with Head Office Procedures.Ensure that stock is ordered timeously.Ensure any stock recon queries from Head Office are resolved timeously.Report any stock inconsistencies to Head Office immediately by e-mail to the stock controller.Ensure that you send on time your stock order to RM – Weekly.Ensure that you don’t order stock on the last week of the month.Ensure that max-min stock is checked on a weekly basis on DW.Ensure that all patients home delivery orders are done timeously and accurately as per script and queries are followed up meticulously.Health & Safety:Ensure All health and safety, occupational health and all legislative policies are adhered to.Ensure all required Health and Safety checklists are signed and filed in units.Ensure the mandatory legislative South African Acts are permanently and adequately displayed in the prescribed manner e.g. Basic Conditions of Employment Act (BCEA), Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act (COIDA), Fire hydrant signage, Fire plans and Emergency Evacuation plans.Time Keeping:Ensure that all staff are trained on how to access BKC.Ensure audit files are updated on a monthly basis.Ensure induction programme and training is completed with all new staff members within 3 months of employment.Ensure all 15 mandatory modules on the Knowledge Fox are completed by all permanent staff within 3 months.Provide a quote to the Training Manager every 2 years for Mandatory Basic Life. Support training for healthcare providers, once approved by Training. Manager, ensure Invoices are provided to the Training Manager and Operations Team Leader.Ensure staff have read and signed all relevant Clinical policies and procedures.Arrange with the Training Manager for staff to be trained on new clinical procedures.Set up a monthly training schedule for staff – send to RM with monthly off-duties.Arrange with RM and HR for Unit staff to attend training courses and or/congresses (Congress selection is subject to Managements discretion.Liaise with Training Manager and Regional Manager regarding planning, implementation and evaluation of different disciplines.Ensure that the Evacuation and Disaster Plan (where applicable) for each hospital is available and explained to all Unit Staff members.Ensure you draw up emergency procedures such a Fire Evacuation Plan in conjunction with Health & Safety Manager and Fire Department.Ensure that the correct amount of Health and Safety Officers are appointed for the unit and that the Health and Safety programme is continuously implemented and maintained.Continual review and practice of emergency procedures.Ensure all infection control measures are strictly adhered to.Allocate a number of patients (and their families) to each staff member for them to educate, care for, and document patient information and ensure that staff are doing this correctly.Check R/O systems are in accordance and ensure daily checks are within limits in line with SOP’s.Keep updated with the Training Manager regarding additional modules required.UM and 2IC to participate in Mentor Course.Recruitment of Staff:Should new staff be required the Unit Manager must motivate thoroughly to the Regional Manager why the additional staff request is needed.Ensure candidate is aware of Hepatitis B requirements, SANC & HPCSA requirements etc.Admin/Record Keeping:Keep records of any staff training, signed registers and / or disciplinary counseling that may occur and a copy of which should be sent to HR within 3 days of completion.Ensure that all leave forms are processed on Employee Self Service (ESS) in order to track leave taken by staff, and alert RM & HR should a trend of these be completed on the system within a week of receiving and approving it.Ensure monthly (more often when needed) submission of the following documents to the relevant parties.Avitum Information System (AIS).Petty cash synopsis and claims to Regional Manager.Patient transport assistance requests to be sent to the Regional Manager.Linen orders to be sent to the Operations Team Leader (OTL).Stock orders to be approved on DW.Meal invoices to be sent to Operations Team Leader (OTL).Stocktaking to be sent to Stock Controller and Manager: Authorisations, Billings and Credit Controller.Patient attendance registers to be sent to the Billings Team.Audits as per H&S requirements to be sent to RM, HR and Health and Safety Officer.Minutes of monthly meetings to be sent to RM.Maintenance of the national Renal Registry to be done online.Ensure the correct procedure is followed with the procurement of 3 (three) quotes before any external.companies/ agencies/ individuals are allowed to perform any work in the unit.Ensure UM SANC receipt or HPSCA docs are updated annually and sent to HR prior to the expiry date.Provide the Training Manager with the number of new patients who have started on a monthly basis.Ensure new patients sign their documentation and it is filed in their patient file.Manage the clinical pathway variance report according to blood results and actions thereof.Management and Implementation of hand hygiene practices in the unit.HR Disciplinary Procedures:If the need arises performance counselling and disciplinary procedures should be followed in accordance with the B Braun Avitum (Pty) Ltd Employee Handbook.The Human Resources Department should be notified of any impending performance counselling.Ensure that performance counselling is held in a positive, safe manner and training, guidance and mentoring is provided to the employee to improve their performance.Ensure that the proper process for performance counselling is followed as per the guidelines and training to be provided to you if you have not received such.Ensure that when implementing warnings for misconduct, detailed evidence and events are provided on the documentationEnsure that Disciplinary Hearing requests are accompanied with correct statements, documentation, and thorough evidence of the negative events.Ensure all CW timesheets sent for payroll processing are accurate with all information required to make paymentEnsure appraisals with staff members are done either once/twice a year with employees and managers, timeously for increment purposes as well as for the employee to be informed of their level of performance for recognition/development.Ensure that all employees who are appraised sign their paperwork and return copies to.Ensure that all new and current staff have signed Performance Agreements, sent within 3 months of a new starter.Leave on ESS – Ensure you approve/decline leave on ESS once a week and that the RM approves/declines once a week in order to have the most accurate leave balances.Ensure leave is captured on ESS by the Unit Manager and staff are able to take their leave and not be exposed to burnout in order to provide the best service to our patients.Personnel Management:Co-ordinate with RM & Head Office on the planning, implementing and orientating of new staff.Plan and conduct evaluations on a monthly basis and Performance. Appraisals twice yearly and provide Head Office with copies and provide HR with the original Performance Appraisal documentation.Co-operate with the assigned person who will be conducting the Unit/Unit Manager's Performance Audit.Professionalism:Adhere to legislation and codes of good practices.Promote an environment that enables patients’ safety, independence, quality of life and healthEnsure that patient care is of a high standard, and attention and respect is always given to the patient.Ensure that you consciously refrain from doing or causing harm of any nature whatsoever (physically, psychologically and emotionally) to any patient, groups of patients and the families and communities from, which they come.Ensure that the Ethical Code of Conduct is always adhered to.Promote patient growth by encouraging a trusting and professional relationship with the patient and their family.General:Keep abreast of all up-to-date articles and publications regarding dialysis sent by the Regional Manager as well as for our own knowledge.Arrange and manage screening of programmes (KidneyWise), especially on World Kidney Day and National Kidney Week.Ensure that all staff always follow the dress code of the company as per the Employee handbook.Ensure that machines are cleaned and sterilized properly after each treatment and that the relevant manuals are available for referral for each type of machine used in the Unit.Keep an up-to-date record of all relevant contact numbers for repair and maintenance and when the machines are due for their next service.Ensure that there is an up-to-date contact list for Unit employees, doctors/physicians and patients (and their surety) and that it is available to all the Unit staff.Ensure that the No Smoking Policy is adhered to.Ensure that all staff responsibly conduct themselves when collecting, processing, storing and sharing another employee or patient’s personal information by holding them accountable should they abuse or compromise your personal information in any way as per the POPI ActFrom time to time, you will be required to perform additional reasonable tasks not included in the abovementioned Job Description at Management's discretion.Qualifications and Requirements: Registration with SANC as a Professional Nurse or with HPCSA as an unsupervised Clinical Technologist 3 Years as a Dialysis nurse / unsupervised B.Tech Clinical Technologist/N.
