Professor / Associate Professor: Public Health (Permanent) Professor / Associate Professor: Public Health (Permanent)Type of engagement: Permanent appointment The Professor is responsible for teaching and learning practices in their specific subject area. It is expected from a Professor to provide leadership in research guidance and output in the Department of Public Health. In addition, the Professor will supervise postgraduate students and assist in administrative duties in the Department/Faculty of Health Sciences. The Professor reports to the Head of Department.Job DescriptionKEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:KPA 1: Teaching post-graduate coursesTeaching and assessment tasks of relevant postgraduate modules,All administrative task relating to teaching such as course evaluation and submitting of marks,Providing research supervision to postgraduate student (Masters, PhD).KPA 2: ResearchUndertake publishable academicresearch, attend and present research findings at national and international conferences,Secure external research grantsand provide scholarships for postgraduate students.Contribute to Departmental /Faculty administration,Assist with Head of Departmentadministrative and management duties,Contribute/take aleadership role in departmental, faculty and university committees.Participate in community engagement integrated with teaching and/or research.Responsibilities include:Provide academic leadership in research, curriculum design, development and implementation,Teach undergraduate and postgraduate programs, Undertake publishable academic research,Participate in community engagement integrated with teaching and/or research,Perform academic leadership and related administrative duties,Secure external research grants and establish programmes.Additional requirementsEvidence of successfulfundraising for research-related activities in Public Health,Evidence of academicleadership and/or mentoring emerging researchers,Evidence of attracting andworking with post-doctoral fellows will be an added advantage,Evidence of professionaland academic standing in the field of Public Health,Recognition as a leadingscholar in a chosen area of research (e.g. NRF rating; internationalkeynote/plenaries) will be an added advantage.Inherent CriteriaQualificationsDoctoral degree in Public Health.ExperienceAt least 10 years’ experience in higher education for a full Professor / 7 years for Associate Professor with extensive teaching and research experience in Public Health.Track record of research publications commensurate with the academic rank level of a full Professor/ Associate Professor.Extensive successful postgraduate Masters and Doctoral supervision.Application Requirement 1.
