We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chief Engineer to join our team at our clients in Durban. Our ideal candidate is a natural leader with exceptional technical expertise in engineering and a passion for innovation and problem-solving. As the Chief Engineer, you will be responsible for overseeing the engineering department and leading a team of engineers to ensure the successful execution of all projects. Your main responsibilities will include: Maintains facilities and equipment by conducting inspections on a regular basis to determine need and extent of service, equipment required, type of operation, and maintenance needed Ensures adherence to applicable laws by meeting with government and insurance inspectors, and performing follow-up as required Communicates with department heads regarding engineering programmes as they pertain to the physical plant Keeps all mechanical, electrical, and structural blueprints and diagrams up to date; maintains library of part lists, maintenance manuals, reference books, catalogues, etc. Directs and aids in the replacement of systems that become inadequate or obsolete Recommends, establishes, and maintains inventory level thresholds based on budget and availability of supplies. Managing the Engineering Function • Manages employees working for the engineering function, including contractors and hotel employees Laws, Regulations and Policies • Follows all applicable laws • Responsible Business: show involvement and be interested in environmental and/or social issues by participating in Responsible Business hotel and departmental activities Human Resource Management: • Screens, interviews and selects potential staff for the department • Develops and recommends appropriate training to meet guest and internal needs Employee Relations: • Fosters and develops effective employee relations throughout the hotel • Establishes and maintains effective internal communications, including weekly meetings with own staff to ensure optimum teamwork and productivity • Looks for ways to motivate and challenge employees Health&Safety • Ensures that all potential and real hazards are reduced immediately • Fully understands the hotels fire, emergency, and bomb procedures • Ensures that emergency procedures are practised and enforced to provide for the security and safety of guests and employees • Ensures that own staff works in a safe manner that does not harm or injure self or others Miscellaneous: • Attends meetings and training required by the General Manager • Assists colleagues to perform similar or related jobs when necessary • Ensures guest satisfaction by attending to their requests and inquires courteously and efficiently • Accepts flexible work schedule necessary for uninterrupted service to hotel guests Minimum Requirements: • Full knowledge and experience within a Maintenance and Facilities environment. • Previous experience of a minimum of years' experience in the Maintenance and or Facilities position • Well-groomed and excellent written and verbal English communication skills • Flexible and able to work shifts A full and detailed job description will be given to candidates that are short listed for submission to the client In return for your hard work and dedication, we offer a competitive salary, bonuses, and benefits package. #J-18808-Ljbffr
