We are seeking an energetic journalist and manager with exceptional news judgement, storytelling ability and outstanding communication skills to oversee our two South Africa bureaus. Based in Johannesburg, you will be expected to keep Bloomberg competitive in tracking the recovery of Africa’s biggest economy as it takes on an increasingly prominent role in global affairs. From reporting on the Rand’s volatility to the fate of platinum mines and the government efforts to revive the nation’s ailing infrastructure, your drive to be first will see you leading the room to deliver original news on these and other themes for our global audience. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working on market-moving scoops and authoritative features for the Bloomberg Terminal, along with our broadcast and web platforms. Crucially, you will act as an ambassador, setting up roundtable meetings with key newsmakers and contributing to events that boost our profile both in South Africa and beyond the region. You will serve as mentor and role model to others in the bureau, ensuring they are connected to all platforms and stakeholders within Editorial&Research, and support their coverage and development. We'll trust you to: Demonstrate exemplary leadership and listening skills Write and edit with clarity based on outstanding news judgement Work collaboratively within South Africa as well as other bureaus and teams, platforms and stakeholders Attract top newsmakers for roundtables; curate bespoke events Manage the internal personnel needs of the bureau You'll need to have: A Bachelor's degree or equivalent At least 10 years of experience working in business journalism and in a real-time news environment Proven leadership skills and the ability to direct coverage Ability to maintain and develop top-level sources If this sounds like you: Apply if you think we're a good match.
