Medical Aid rate based on principal member only) To be confirmed Advert Closing Date 24/5/2024 Job Purpose The Faculty of Informatics and Design seeks to appoint a Teaching and Learning Co-ordinator for a period of three (3) years on a portfolio basis in which the incumbent will retain 50% of their current academic workload and take additional responsibilities for the Faculty Teaching and Learning Co-ordinator role. The purpose of this post is to facilitate, manage and co-ordinate teaching and learning activities within the faculty to advance academic success in teaching, learning and assessment. The incumbent will be required to initiate, co-ordinate and execute appropriate teaching, learning and assessment development interventions and strategies in the faculty as well as to provide leadership and mentorship to support various initiatives to ensure compliance and enhancement in line with relevant institutional policies and strategies. The incumbent will also work closely with departments in terms of reviewing and developing new qualifications and review of the existing and relevance of curriculum. In this regard, they will monitor, review and report on all related activities in the faculty and provide administrative and development support to students and staff across the faculty. This position is vital to the achievement of excellence in Teaching&Learning practices in the faculty. Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience A Master’s Degree in a discipline applicable and related to the Faculty of Informatics&Design (i.e Media, Information Technology, Design, Urban&Regional Planning&Architectural Technology) At least four (4) years’ relevant experience in Higher Education. Minimum ( 6 – 12 months) understanding of curriculum development. (Please note: The incumbent should complete / register for a Doctorate degree while in the position) Recommendations: Understanding of DHET and CHE accreditation processes. Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities Coordination of the learning and teaching activities within faculty. Implementation of learning and teaching strategy for the faculty Communication and coordination of learning and teaching policies, projects and procedures in the faculty Design and develop interventions to enhance teaching and learning in the faculty and promote student success. Investigation of current educational practices and promotion of scholarship of learning in the faculty Assisting in designing and delivering a development program for the faculty on aspects related to first year experience. Responsibility for PQM and coordination of new programme proposals and applications Responsibility for quality assurance in teaching and learning Quality assurance and involvement in accreditations processes within departments Assist with the coordination and implementation of new HEQF aligned programs within the faculty. Responsibility for faculty review reports. Responsibility for faculty qualifications reviews Staff development workshops on learning and teaching activities. Faculty representative in learning and teaching related committees in the university. Chair the Faculty Learning and Teaching Committee. Interact with, and report to the Faculty Board Executive Committee and Senate L&T Committees. Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) Good interpersonal skills Facilitation, Coaching&Mentoring skills Sound teaching skills. Strong planning, organizational, management and coordination abilities Demonstration of knowledge of all relevant aspects of learning and teaching policies and strategies Report writing skills. Record keeping and report writing skills. Ability to work independently with minimum supervision and in a team.
