The successful candidate will report to the Chief of Staff in the Federal Leader’s Office.The ideal candidate will be responsible for:Producing various forms of written communication for the Federal Leader, including speeches, press statements, op-eds, video scripts, briefing documents, internal party memorandums, crafting of rebuttals, and letters to the press and/or the President, as well as any other written communication requiredProviding strategic advice on marketing and communications related mattersPreparing regular correspondence for relationship managementProactively identifying potential speech/writing opportunitiesProspective applicants should meet the following requirements:National Senior Certificate or equivalentRelevant tertiary qualification, may include Languages, Writing, Journalism, CopywritingProficiency in English required, with an additional language advantageousExperience in writing long-format copy for various audiences and across various mediumsExperience in preparing text for speech delivery advantageousBroad knowledge of politics – both political systems in general, and South Africa’s specific political history and systemKnowledge of legal framework of local and provincial governmentBroad knowledge of world events, world politics, local economic issues and social issues affecting a wide range of local communitiesAn understanding of data, graphs and reportsAbility to incorporate input from others into workExcellent communication skills, with the ability to facilitate workshopsExcellent organisational and planning abilitiesSystematic, comprehensive and displaying excellent attention to detailProven leadership skills and an ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within the PartyCommitment to the principles, policies and programme of action of the PartyAbility to work effectively and energetically around a demanding work schedule, including working irregular hours on a frequent basisOutcomes-orientated, not simply task-orientatedApplicants must be in possession of a valid driver’s license and have access to an insured vehicle for occasional useShould you meet the above requirements and be interested, kindly forward the following to Chandre Fernandez, Democratic Alliance, Federal Head Office, PO Box 1475, Cape Town, 8000.
