Role Purpose: The purpose of the Quality Controller role is to ensure that the assigned production line meets and exceeds all housekeeping, food safety, hygiene, and quality standards. This role monitors and supervises quality control and plant sanitation activities to ensure compliance to all health and safety regulations and practices within the meat plant. This role reports to the Meat Plant Quality Assurance Manager, to support the implementation of quality control policies, practices, and standards and report on quality assurance related issues. Job Category Food Service Job Objectives Role Description: Quality Control: Perform quality control (QC) checks and generate reports for incoming and outgoing products to ensure that they meet quality and safety standards in accordance with regulations. Compile QC reports and checklists. Perform sensory evaluation for incoming raw materials to ensure consistent quality and for product improvement. Perform regular internal and external quality control and monitor their quality to provide timely feedback for improvement. Monitoring and recording shelf life and temperatures for raw materials. Inspect packaging and labels on all products before despatch. Health and Safety: Monitoring staff entrance to the production area to ensure staff adhere to the strictest hygiene practices. Daily glass and hard plastic checks to ensure no particles are found in products. Weekly chemical calibration checks. Ensure staff adhere to Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) requirements and reporting non-conformance to management. Hygiene Practices: Inspect equipment for sanitation and integrity. Perform preoperational checks for hygiene and quality standards. Conduct environmental inspections. Cleaning team supervision Monitor execution of cleaning activities delivered by cleaners. Plan and schedule cleaning team Ensure adherence to cleaning schedules and display of schedules Qualifications Grade 12 similar equivalent - (essential) A relevant Food Science/ Quality Management or similar qualification - (essential) Experience + 1-year relevant experience in the food and beverage industry, FMCG or similar with leadership potential or exposure to supervising a team in practicing day-to-day quality control/assurance, hygiene, health, and standards (essential) Training in basic Food Safety, HACCP Implementation, line inspections and housekeeping (-desirable) Basic computer literacy skills - (desirable) Knowledge and Skills Key Competencies and Work Ethic: Leadership skills – Actively retains and nurtures a high performing team of Meat Plant cleaning staff.
