Press Tab to Move to Skip to Content Link Select how often (in days) to receive an alert: Create Alert Location: Bellville, Western Cape, South Africa Santam’s Operations’ division currently has an exciting opportunity available for a Commercial Underwriter who will be based within the Operational Underwriting and Risk Control team (Bellville or Johannesburg). To be responsible for maintaining and administering the Santam Underwriting rules within the Commercial Underwriting Technical Team Operations.What will make you successful in this role?• Manage appropriate underwriting rules for the commercial portfolio aligned with Santam’s risk appetite and rating structures.• Understand, and champion the underwriting needs of intermediaries, staff and clients by Identify underwriting trends and addressing pro-actively.• Handle referrals for complex underwriting and pricing exceptions• Influence the behaviour of business partners in terms of underwriting applied on policies as well as underwriting actions which impact profit.• Propose underwriting enhancement which may include wording changes or new coverages.• Support the development of new product underwriting functionality on Santam platforms and applications.• Assist with transfer of skills to underwriting partners in the business.QUALIFICATIONS• FAIS compliance (min of 120 credits on NQF5 in commercial insurance)• Completed or in the process of completing the Santam Academy courses in commercial insurance (Internal)• Completed the Risk Identification and Assessment programme (Internal)KNOWLEDGE • Advance knowledge in MS Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook as well as Microsoft Dynamics 365 • In depth knowledge and understanding of commercial policy wordings • Extensive short-term insurance knowledge • Understanding of Commercial Underwriting quoting tools  EXPERIENCE • Minimum of 10 years short-term insurance industry experience within a Commercial underwriting environment, with at least 5 years specifically focused on pricing and underwriting of risks.  SKILLS • Ability to statistically analyse information and data • Advanced numeracy skills • Appreciation of insurance and underwriting principles • Santam Underwriting and Policy Administration Systems, namely: WEBe, Mainframe, PolicyCenter (will be advantageous) Build a successful career with usWe’re all about building strong, lasting relationships with our employees.
